Lily closed her eyes for a moment when James snapped at her. They had fights before. Epic battles of words where they would say anything to each other. She usually had no issue with letting her temper flair but this situation seemed particularly sensitive and she would have to work hard to keep herself in check.
Opening her eyes, she looked to Harry. "He left me but not you. He didn't know I was pregnant. Hell, I didn't even know. And I made the choice never to tell him." She knew how it made her sound but it would make her look even worse if she tried and pass it off as though it wasn't her fault somehow. Which wouldn't even make sense no matter how she spun it.
Looking over to James she continued. "When you left I will fully admit was angry and I was bitter. Then I found out I was pregnant and I became very very scared. My friends already thought I was nuts for ever trusting you. I couldn't tell anyone at first and I certainly couldn't have gone to you. Think back to that last argument James. Think about your family. If we broke up because I didn't fit in your world, how would the half-blood child of the mudblood slut-And I'm sure that's what your father at least labeled me as." She had to stop for a moment to take a deep breath. This had been a very uncertain time in life. She had friends and family but she really had not felt more alone.
"I couldn't show up at your door pregnant because I was scared of what they would do. Would they make me abort the baby? Would they take him away from me? Sure, maybe they would have let you play father but I wouldn't have been able to be mother. You know me James, how much would I have pushed till your father decided I was a nuisance?" She shook her head. "So, I made the choice not to tell you."
