Demelza frowned at Katie, surprised again. "Well, to begin with," she said, slowly, "I didn't think you were stalking me. But actually you making sure I know that so quickly makes me wonder..." she said, trying to be teasing despite the strange mood that was over the pair. She didn't think Katie was stalking her. For all she knew, Katie liked going to strip clubs even if she'd never seen her here before. But really, how quickly the woman had to make that clear was a bit suspect to her.
"Why didn't I tell you what?" she asked, shaking her head. Her try at levity disappeared. "You're right, Katie. I don't owe you anything. I don't have to tell you or anyone else that I'm a stripper. So I don't. Or at least only sometimes. There was no secrecy. I'm sorry if I didn't tell you every detail of my life, but I didn't have to and still don't." She was a bit defensive, because she hated when people acted like she owed them anything. The only person she owed anything to was Annie and she was slowly trying to repay the debt she knew she never really could.
