RP - A little bit of childhood
Date: June 28th 2001 (afternoon)
Characters: Lily Evans
Location: Petunia and Vernon's home, Surrey
Warnings: None
Public/Private: Private
Summary: Lily's musing before visiting with her sister and brother-in-law
Status: In progress
Lily was certain that to any outsider, the relationship she had with
her sister, Petunia and brother-in-law, Vernon was an odd one. Her own
son didn’t truly understand why Lily insisted on continuing to visit
with his aunt and uncle. While they had let Lily and Harry stay with
them while Lily had been pregnant and then while Harry was growing up,
there had always been and underlying feeling of tension and
resentment, mainly coming from Vernon in Lily’s opinion. Lily almost
couldn’t blame him. She was sure that Petunia had never foreseen that
they would be taking in her muggleborns sister after she became
pregnant with the bastard child or a pureblood wizard. Vernon had not
known what he had gotten into by marrying her sister.
When it truly came down to it though, Petunia was her sister and truly
the last bit of her immediate family from her past that she had left.
James came and went in her life; her son had grown up and moved on
with his life. She still saw him, of course, but he needed his space
to live his life. Petunia was really the only constant that she had
left and Lily needed that feeling that she did have family that she
could go to, especially with being apart of the faction.
So, she would go to her sister’s home and sit down to have a properly
made meal for a change. She would sit through Vernon’s prattling on
about how the magical folk had destroyed the country. She would bring
up how he could always join her in faction to fight in the resistance
and he would start a rant on the ineffectualness of such an
organization. She would talk about the happier moments in their
childhood with Petunia and by the end of the night she would leave
after giving her sister a tight hug, telling her that she would see
her the next week and be in touch if anything happens.
It was the same every week when she visited and despite the lack of
variety, Lily was glad to have it, looked forward to it and needed it.
The world they lived in was bad enough, she felt that some normalcy
and night to feel as though things weren’t so bad was needed.
As she walked up the path that led to her sister’s front door, a smile
touched Lily’s lips. A night of normalcy was so very much needed.
