Malachi wasn't sure he appreciated the fact that Evan seemed to be obvious about ignoring him. He knew it made sense, since he didn't know Evan and Evan didn't know him. But it didn't sit well with him as Evan practically glared at Lavender openly. Instinctively, Malachi's arm shot up to drape around the back of Lavender's shoulders, resting his hand on her shoulder.
He frowned at Lavender's words. The thought that someone just hated wizards or would hate their own son just sickened him. He squeezed Lavender's shoulder. "I do love Truth. Whether you sign the papers or not, he'll always be my son," he said softly, knowing despite himself that the words probably wouldn't help the situation.
