Malachi smiled. He could agree, but he knew Lily wasn't aware of what all happened with Lavender. She had no idea that he had left her over a photo in the paper, came back to apologize and propose, only to find out that Lavender had found out alone - well, with Cormac, but not him - she was pregnant while he was gone. And that Truth had asked where he was every day. That still strung in a way he wasn't sure how to accept. He'd been mad at Lavender, been acting wrong, and in the end, Truth had paid for it as well. He was just lucky Truth didn't seem to care now. Truth was even starting to call him daddy, which both Lavender and he wanted.
"Are you saying people all deserve bad luck and horrible lives and those who are blessed in some way, don't actually deserve it? What about those people who feed the homeless? Are you saying they deserve misery and are just lucky when they don't get it?" he asked, smiling. He was teasing. He knew Lily didn't actually mean anything like that. But he couldn't help but turn it around in some way.
