Cormac wasn't if he believed her, but it didn't matter. Like before, it was the intention that counted. If she said it hadn't been an insult, he'd accept it. But in a way, it had been. He was a lot of things - charming, loyal, and brazen as just a few - but she hadn't filled in the sentence with anything positive. To him, her mind was at least trying to leap to something negative. She wanted it to be an insult. Hell, she might even be looking for insults for him now. He wasn't giving her a lot of to go on right now. He could easily give her fuel to the fire of her insults, but he was even trying to be good. He was trying to be on his best behavior. God, why was he even trying? What was so great about Astoria other than the fact she was beautiful and a mystery? There was a lot of women who were both beautiful and mystery that wasn't her out there. He'd slept with many of them personally.
Reaching up, he ran his fingers through Astoria's hair as she leaned in. He was definitely appreciating the fact that she was readily reciprocating his touch and advances. So far she hadn't yet pushed him away or really withdrew. Now and then, she put a brakes on things, but what else would be expect from a proper pureblood witch? He was certainly most women in her position would react the same way, not that he had a lot of experience with the proper or pureblood on this level. On the level that he wanted to kiss them, to touch them, to be close to them. He hadn't much need for the headache they always seemed to be. In a way, Astoria was proving him right in that way. She was a bit of a headache, but the little voice in his head still told him that she was worth it.
When her hand came up to his cheek and she pressed her lips harder against his, he closed his eyes completely. He kissed her back. His fingers threaded through her hair, gently. The kiss was really just an excuse to not talk right now. They couldn't really continue their discussion or have it turn into a full blown argument when they were kissing. He concentrated on the feeling of her lips, how she tasted, and how she responded.
