Astoria felt her heart sink at his reaction. She didn't think she had said anything offensive but he was frowning at her and she didn't particularly like it. Her brows furrowed and she did not respond immediately. "I don't know what you are," she said with a weak smile, an attempt lighten to the mood even though she didn't expect to be successful.
She didn't know how to respond to his offer. She couldn't ask him what she wanted to ask him. Not when she wasn't even sure of what she herself was doing. It would be unfair and put too many expectations on something that was really nothing more than a little fun for the both of them. They technically weren't even on a date and he'd already told her he was keeping his intentions to himself. The whole thinking process was giving Astoria a headache and she found herself wishing she'd never said anything at all. She liked simplicity and this suddenly felt like anything but simple.
A quiet sigh escaped her lips and she found herself needing to avoid his gaze. She stared down at her hands, noticing the contrast between the simple bracelet Cormac had given her and the intricate silver snake twisting around her wrist. "I wouldn't know where to start," Astoria said finally, inwardly cringing because if the roles were reversed that would have been a very inadequate answer.
