Astoria shrugged. "Why should I give my trust to someone who hasn't earned it? A lot of people don't have the best intentions." She wouldn't fool herself into thinking that they did.
Cormac's hand on her shoulder caught her by surprise and she instantly turned to face him a game. She hadn't backed away, perhaps because she'd been too shocked and a little confused. After a brief moment she smiled, showing him that she hadn't really been bothered by anything he had done. Astoria nodded at his words. "That's pretty much the way I think," she laughed. "But I still feel childish. Or perhaps petty is the better word?" Astoria was all about self-preservation but sometimes she felt as if she still had a lot of growing up to do.
"Absolutely not. It would have been your fault still," she responded. She grinned and shook her head at his words, amused instead of offended. "Right, you're just that amazing, I guess," Astoria replied. She laughed again, thinking it very silly. "I think I've done that once or twice." Probably more. It was just how she responded to Cormac.
