"That's what, exactly?" she questioned. Astoria didn't know what it was that he thought but she was too stubborn to let the topic drop. Perhaps she should have but what was the point in that?
It wasn't as if they'd ever agree, really. "Well, yes, that's true. I don't even know why I'm bothering to defend them, actually. But when it comes to respect, I have some for everyone unless they prove me otherwise." It was they way she'd been brought up. Respect was important to Astoria and she thought most people deserved it. "I'm glad you saw the light," Astoria teased gently. "It is sadder. Life isn't fair though, is it? People grow up alone, live alone, and die alone all the time." Maybe it was easier for Astoria to understand because she leaned more towards the pessimistic end of the scale. That, and her work as a reporter. Some people were just unlucky in life. "I don't think anyone wants to really give up but hope can only last for so long before it seems pointless."
