RP: I'm guilty of treason. Date: March 21, 2001 Characters: Fabian Prewett Location: his home Public/Private: Private Summary: Fabian has some things to think about. Status: Complete
Fabian had spent years hiding his secrets. After Arthur was murdered, he took a backseat in the faction, unable to throw himself in the world that had killed his brother-in-law and one of his best friends. Arthur's death had left Molly a single mother with seven children to take care of. It was hard for her, and Fabian saw it each time he went to visit her and his nephews and niece.
Now, so many years later, this poor excuse for a Ministry of Magic was asking people to pledge themselves to him. In the oath itself, it said called Minister Grindelwald 'my Lord'. Who called Minister a lord? Since when was he a lord? What was he a lord over? He wasn't a lord. He was barely a Minister of Magic. He walked around like he ruled the world and over and over again tried to. He tried to. He tried to rule the world and subject everyone who he felt was beneath him to what he believed. It was pathetic. The world was pathetic. Once again, he found himself hating being a wizard. He hated himself for being part of the world the prosecuted innocent people for whom they were just born.
He'd kept the oath in the drawer, waiting for a day that he had no choice. He'd spent years protecting his secrets, years of watching out for his very life. Arthur's death was just a morbid reminder that his death was on the line. He closed his eyes as he held the oath in his hand. He didn't want to do this. Who knew what this oath could do? Who knew what this oath meant beyond the words written on the page? It could mean anything. It could do anything. No one really knew. He opened his eyes and steadied the words once again. He knew several members of the faction who had already signed the oath and sent it back, and he knew others who flat out refused. No one told anyone else what choice to make. No one else told anyone to lie nor did they tell anyone else to put themselves in jeopardy. Just like the faction itself, it was all up to the person.
Taking out the quill, his hand shook as he wrote.
I, Fabian Prewett, swear to uphold the laws and regulations that the offices of Minister of Magic Gellert Grindelwald. My alliance and obedience to Minister of Magic Gellert Grindelwald will show no fear or favor, bias or ill will, to faithfully follow the laws that my Lord Grindelwald has set forth and commanded me to follow.
