Astoria smiled at the bartender as he set her drink before her. She murmured a quick thank you, grateful to have a little peace, even if it was at a bar of all places. It was still too early for the place to crowded and she was glad she'd gotten there early enough for a seat. A table by herself would have been completely depressing even though she had not bothered to invite her friends along. It was a Thursday night and she figured most would be busy with whatever responsibility they had. Astoria, however, was completely free to do as she wanted. Without a job she had all the time in the world and she hated it. It was definitely boring once the novelty had worn off.
She ignored the thought and instead took a sip of her drink. The vodka burned and for a moment Astoria felt more awake, more alive. But the moment passed quickly. Resting her chin on her hand she wondered about her weekend. She'd almost forgotten her birthday, if only because she had lost track of time. She was looking forward to it, however. A family dinner and time with friends. There was nothing to complain about. Astoria smiled absentmindedly at the thought. She had something to look forward to. It was nice.
