Her mother had already gone off to work that morning. It was usually hit or miss whether she would be having breakfast with her mother or not. Today is seemed like a miss. Getting together some things for her breakfast, Alette went to work in charming utensils to scramble the eggs while she made herself some tea.
There was a slight tapping at the window and Alette looked up to see an Owl perched at the window sill with a copy of the daily prophet. Leaning over, Alette opened the window and the Owl hopped in. After giving up a treat for the bird, she took the news paper it offered and went to the kitchen table with her cup of tea. She had been trying really hard lately to follow the goings on of the English magical community since she was now planning on staying here for quite some time.
She unrolled the newspaper and the first thing she saw was Benjamin’s face. Frowning slightly the words of the headline burned into her brain. Azakaban?! This didn’t make sense. What could Ben possibly have done…but then as she read the aritcle it became al too clear and suddenly she remembered that one night when she had first gone to his place and there was all that roaring and he had acted so weird…had that been a dragon.
Placing the paper down on the table, she sat there stunned for a moment, her hands splayed out flat on the table. In her mind’s eye, she saw Benjamin laying in her bed, smiling at her. It had been a happy time. Neither of them had a worry or care at that moment. She had been looking forward to seeing him again.
There was a sizzling and pop sound behind her but it was only when she smelt something burning did she come out of her trance.
Alette jumped up and ran to the stove. She quickly took the pan off the fire but let out a cry of pain and cursed. The handle was hot. She dropped the pain into the sink before she leaned down over the counter and put her head in her hands. Was is stupid for her to feel such a sense of loss when she hadn’t known him all that long? This wasn’t how it was suppose to be.
