Character: Gellert Grindelwald

Summary: Gellert takes time to think over his position as Minister and his relationship with Vlad.
Status: Complete
Gellert didn't like to be frustrated, to be at a loss. He wanted to do what was right, but that was only what was right for him. For years he'd lived for himself, lived for what was right for him and what worked best for his interests. At that moment, however, he couldn't distinguish what was right for him from what was right for Vlad and then what was right for the Ministry.
His relationship with Vlad hadn't been part of the plans. Never had he thought he'd even be in a relationship with anyone after the death of his last lover. He had flings, time with men here and there, but never a relationship. Vlad had been the only person that actually gotten through the barrier. And now he... loved Vlad? He'd said the words and there wasn't a doubt in his mind that he did. There should be, but there wasn't. He didn't view Vlad as a vampire, even with what they did, but as a man, the man he loved. Last time he'd loved someone he had killed the man in cold blood to achieve power, now Vlad wanted to come out in the open. Would Vlad watch him die of old age, naturally? Or would he want to change him into someone like him? If he did change him would Vlad still want to be near him? Would he kill him instead of changing him? After all this is over, he made the action to go public, would Vlad actually want to be by his side, to actually be willing to stand there and say he supported him? Gellert wasn't sure. He couldn't be until it was over.
Oh, the Ministry and the people wouldn't like Vlad after he made it public. He knew that. He kept Fenrir, the werewolf who was more accepted, under wraps for the most part because of their bias and hatred. His bias and hatred. He hated halfbreeds of humans normally, werewolves and vampires alike, whom hated each other. There was as much hate in the wizarding world as the muggle, as any world, with anyone who had feelings and beating hearts. They thrived on hatred as much as they thrived on love. More so, since it was a stronger emotion in Gellert's experience. Hatred was what drove him to kill his former lover, not love. Love had been forgotten for the time with hatred overtaking it all.
But he'd already told Vlad they could go public. Part of him just wanted to go public to stop hiding. Who was he, the Minister of Magic in so many countries, to hide? He didn't want to hide, didn't feel he should. He was wrong and more powerful than any of them, most of them put together or the world would have went to hell long before now. The Class of the Chrysanthemum was more of a nuisance than anything else. Yes, it would be wonderful to get them out of the way, but it wasn't more than that.
How was he going to tell the whole world that he was in a relationship with a vampire? For once, and only once, had hatred turned on him and could be used against him. But he was doing it... for love. It was all too twisted and tangled for him to work out now.
