Jocelyn felt more comfortable as Chloe. Chloe wasn't a Class member; Chloe wasn't a Hogswarts students. She had all the papers, but she was a void in every other way. People who'd know either Jocelyn or Shelby for years could just pass by her without thinking twice. She was a nobody. It was perfect.
She didn't have to hide, to wonder, to worry. There was nothing standing in her way. It'd been over a month since 'the incident' and she was coming to grips with it. She could go into crowds without wanting to cower. She figured, despite it happening in Diagon Alley, she should stick closely to here. It was easier, it made her blend in more. It was that or leaving entirely. How could she leave entirely? It was part of who she was, who she wanted to be, who she was meant to be. It was all fate and when she was given magic, it was fated she be part of here. That's what she'd always believed for everyone.
The chill kept her in a cloak, but she wasn't hiding, she window shopped. She walked down the alley, mixed with the people, and felt almost like she belonged. She still jerked when someone touched her accidentally, jerking her head to see who it was, looking over her shoulder only then. That, she believed, would fade and disappear with time. She had to believe that fear when someone accidentally touched her would disappear one day and she could be completely normal.
Stopping in front of a window display in front of Flourish & Blotts she noticed one of her favorite writers had a book out just in time for the holiday season. She hadn't settled a job at the Ministry yet, but she had savings and the money she inherited. Couldn't she splurge?
