RP: It's a damn cold night trying to figure out this life...
Date: November 24, 2000
Characters: Demelza
Location: Knockturn Alley
Public/Private: Private
Summary: One her way home, Demelza thinks about the leadless state of the Beige Faction and Annie's last return owl.
Status: Complete
Demelza bundled herself up as she walked out of Indulgences after a night of stripping and talking with the men as she was supposed to go. That place could be so harsh. She didn't hate it, though. It was better, she knew, then other places. Some girls had horror stories. At least Indulgences had a rule of not touching the girls and stuck by it by having the bouncers throw anyone who is turned in out. She'd been "Sweetness" for several hours in skimpy or no clothes and no she could be Demelza. Sometimes it felt like two different people.
As she walked down the alley, her thoughts drifted to the Beige Faction. It leader-less. Bellatrix died. She stopped in the middle of the street, looking up at the streetlamp. Bellatrix Black had died. Bellatrix Black had been murdered. Her mind still couldn't seem to wrap around it and it'd been nearly a month. For almost a year she'd idolized the woman, wanted to be her. And now Bellatrix Black was dead and she was said to be "Snow White" who killed muggles. She'd been caught doing it, outed. If Bellatrix Black was caught who's to say everyone else wouldn't be? What if one day when she was watching out for some Beige members they were actually caught? She'd be an accomplice.
Bellatrix Black is dead.
The Beige Faction had no leader.
It all came to her in slow ripples, not allowing her to forget or not think of it. It was too real. It was much too real.
Annie would have a field day if she knew what she was doing - being in the Beige faction, stripping, keeping watch while people hurt or killed muggles. Annie would be so disappointed. As much as she hated muggles and muggleborns herself, this would be too much for Annie. She was going against Annie who had cared for her for so many years when she didn't really have to. Her Annie.
She pulled her cloak tighter, closing her eyes for a moment. Then she opened them and thought Annie's last owl. It'd be the same talk, request for a meeting, and the return of the money she tried to send again. In her reply, with how things were, Demelza had refused a meeting, quoting her life too hectic but not why. How could she go to a meeting with Annie when the Beige faction had no leader? When Bellatrix Black herself had died? It would be simply too much to take. She'd be sure to go to Annie's for the holidays. But until then, it just wasn't happening.
She sighed. It's not like she could ever fill Bellatrix's shoes. She wished she could, but she couldn't. Instead she was just a member, a watch guard. Right now, she wished she didn't have to wake up so soon for her day shift at her other job at Odds and Ends. Sleep looked wonderful, a way to forget about Bellatrix's death and the unfortunate leaderless status of the Beige faction, and Annie and her guilt.
