Malachi shook his head at Katie's expression. He couldn't tell her why he hadn't correctly the little boy, or why he actually wanted to encourage it. They couldn't tell anyone until the actual wedding. He was just glad she didn't try to correct him, like he was wrong when he wasn't. Maybe she just thought he was confused and it wasn't her place to correct him or maybe she was too surprised to do anything.
When the door closed after passing out the candy, Mandy grinned at Katie. "You are family. We all are, just a very strange one. And you certainly will never be just the blond lesbian nanny. I think Truth would kick my butt if I even agreed that for a moment. Wouldn't you Truth?"
Truth seemed confused, or just too hung up on the idea of candy, because all he did was nod. "Candy!"
"See, he loves you so much, he doesn't think twice. Just knows you're supposed to be here and wants candy," Malachi said, screwing it slightly as he placed his arm around Katie for a second. In a softer tone, he added, "Lavender thinks of you as a family. If Cormac is like a brother of sorts, you're more than like a sister." He dropped his arm and turned to head to the next house.
