Malachi waited until he knew Truth would be in bed, hoping the little boy went down easy and would sleep through anything that happened. He had no idea what Lavender had told him or how he felt on Malachi not being there or if he even thought about it. He worried about the boy, wondering if he knew something was wrong or just thought it was back to how it was before. Since Lavender could easily kick him out again, this time of her choice, he didn't want to the boy around to see it. Even if Lavender and he was over, he didn't want to just want out on the little boy's life. In time Lavender might allow him to see Truth again as his friend if not hers.
Of course he didn't want that. He wanted to be with her still. He wasn't sure how she'd react, but he knew she'd be angry. Who wouldn't be? All he hoped for as he opened the door to the flat with his key was for her to listen to him. Maybe she'd believe him. He wasn't sure the ring in his pocket would help matters or not, but he knew he had to try. He wanted this - he wanted her in his life, all his life. It hurt not to have her again; he thought of her, dreamt of her, wanted to wake up beside her. When she wasn't around, he was lost in his own way. He could go to work, do what he had to do, but it wasn't the same. It'd never be the same without her.
Looking around the living room, it looked the same. How could it be the same? It felt different. For a moment he wasn't sure if he even belonged, but he did. It was his life, his home. Their life. Their home.
"Lavender?" he called, heading toward the back of the flat and lowering his voice. "Lavender?"
