He just hopes his actions would be seen as sincere as it was. Status: Complete
Malachi had a horrible night's sleep. He just couldn't sleep; the bed was empty, leaving him lonely, and feeling like a jerk. He was a jerk. He knew it. He wanted to go back, but he had no idea if he even had somewhere to go back to. Lavender may slam the door in his face, call him on what a jerk he was. He hadn't believed her, and now that the Prime Minister himself had told him that it hadn't happened, it might everything worse. If only he'd believed her, actually acted like the man he should have instead of doing to jerk thing and walking out. He'd walked out on the best thing he'd ever had - Lavender and Truth. Up until then, they had been doing so well.
He walked around muggle London, knowing he had to get out of the cabin and back into the city. It was chilly and he bundled up. Glancing at his watch he realized he'd been walking aimless through the streets for close to three hours. He had no place to go, but he wasn't ready to go back to the cabin yet. Shoving his hands back in his pocket, he headed to a store two doors down, a jewelry store. He knew what he wanted, what he wanted for good, and there was only one way to at least try to show his sincerity to Lavender.
Decking inside, he headed for the counter, and looked at the jewelry in the glass display case. When the worker asked him if he needed help, he didn't hesitate to ask for where the engagement rings were. After spending an hour with the salesperson, hearing the details of several rings. Finally, he selected one. It wasn't extremely fancy, and he knew he could have bought something more expensive but Lavender wasn't a really girl who cared about things like that. If she wanted to accept the ring it wouldn't be based on on how many carets or how much the bill was. It would be based on her actually wanting to marry him.
The ring box was in his pocket, he shoved his hand back into his pocket as he walked out. His fingers felt the velvet ring box in his pocket. Not for a moment as he talked to the salesperson did he second guess himself, and even as he walked down the street, he knew he wouldn't regret it. The only thing he'd regret is if she slammed the door in his face, if he had no chance at making his up to her, showing her he wanted to be with her and her only. He wondered if Ben would try to talk him out of it if he told him tonight, but he doubted he would. Ben didn't need to know everything and it certainly didn't involve him. This was between Malachi and Lavender only. And Truth.
The thought of the little boy made him realize that with the ring came another desire that perhaps he'd had for awhile. The desire to be there for him, to be the father he'd never had. Besides living with him and helping raise him, he knew the only way to do that was to ask Lavender if he could legally be his father. He had no idea how that worked or if he would be allowed legally. If the guy didn't know he had a kid, he could never have signed the birth certificate so would that make it easier? Pulling the ring of his pocket, he flipped open the lid and looked down at the ring, knowing he had two nearly impossible questions for her if she even bothered to allow him to come back.
