It was almost surreal how life could continue to push on like normal even with the world around them constantly changing, people dying. Octavius was almost disgusted with himself for having ignored the state that their society was in for so long. Standing outside of his shop front and putting up some items that he was putting on special-just to clear out the inventory a bit-he was lost in thought.
He had experienced death before but never murder. Murder had a completely different feel to it then just simply death. It was almost like there was a wound in the atmosphere. He hadn’t noticed it upon finding Rosie but upon returning Hogsmeade some weeks ago, he had felt it then. It was a sickening feeling and he was sure that it would fester. The Three Broomsticks had always been such a lively place. A place to get a drink, a meal, and a poke was one was inclined. Now there was just a heavy feeling of death over the place. He would miss going there for his tea and doing some Tarot for the patrons.
He would also miss Rosie. He was missing Rosie and not just because he had an attraction to her. She had always been a very interesting person to talk to. Skeptical of his abilities but still willing to humor him.
Thinking about Rosie he stopped his arranging and reached up to run a hand through his hair. Why hadn’t he been able to see what was going to happen to her? This is what bothered him most. Ever since seeing what was in Joss’ future he had been plagued with the wonder at why he hadn’t been able to see what was going to happy to Rosie. Had he been too focused on other things to properly be ably to read her? Possibly. He knew that he could be a Lech at times but never before had it effected someone like this.
Perhaps that’s why he could see what was in store for Joss…at least partially. This was a redemption for him. Do for Joss what he couldn’t do for Rosie. Perhaps there was an even bigger lesson in all of it. Perhaps he needed to become a better man. Right now, he used his gifts for selfish reasons. If he really wanted, he could do so much more. And it was unfair to blame Diane as the reason why he never had. Even before she had come into his life, he had no intentions of being anything but selfish. It was just convenient to use his daughter as a scapegoat.
At least she wasn’t home right now to see him like this.
