Valentine's Day Dinner [backdated to earlier this evening] [Feb. 14th, 2008|05:30 pm]

[Current Mood | a mite peckish]

Dinner was served at the usual time on Thursday night. The usual foods were served on the usual plates with the usual napkins, silverware, and cups beside them. But that was where the normalcy ended.

Instead of the usual house tables, there were several dozen smaller ones scattered around the room. At some tables, couples could be found, gazing lovingly into each other's eyes. At others, rowdy groups of friends enjoyed hanging out together and avoided mentioning what the meaning was behind the day they were celebrating.

No matter what size the table was, each one was covered with a red, pink, or white tablecloth and had a centerpiece with a similar color scheme. In addition to the dozen or so chocolates that were scattered around the centerpieces, there were also small boxes of sweets on each plate. When it was time to leave, every girl (and every boy who cared to take one) was given a red, pink, or white rose.

Valentine's Day Ball [Feb. 14th, 2008|08:02 pm]

[Current Mood | surprisingly agile]

Once the last of the food had been cleared away, the smaller tables were levitated to one side of the Great Hall, leaving room for a dais and the entertainment for the evening. The chamber orchestra struck up with a lively waltz, to kick off the dancing. Albus immediately thought that classical music might have been a mistake.

None of the students seemed to be gravitating toward the dance floor, although he couldn't be certain if it was because they weren't in the mood, or they did not know how to waltz. He very much doubted any of them were waiting for the proper etiquette of allowing the host and hostess to open the ball.

Then again ... "Minerva, may I have this dance?" he asked, smiling, as he stood and extended his hand to his deputy headmistress.
