"James Potter and Remus Lupin and others like them -- because I am sure that there are others, by now -- are in every bit as much danger as yourselves. I can only hope that being able look into the eyes of those you have endangered will make the situation seem less abstact. And some of you may now be thinking that I should simply Obliviate them all, but I fear that is no lasting solution. Memory Charms can be broken by a powerful enough wizard -- and make no mistake, Voldemort is powerful enough to do so. The mind in question is also usually damaged beyond repair in the process, and so the result is the same: your family and friends are no safer, and Voldemort still learns all that he wishes to know.
"But I can, and will, make every effort to protect them, as I am protecting you. They do not need to know the full tale, but they -- like you -- will need to be prepared. Therefore, first of all, I would suggest that you do not tell anyone else. We will do better to concentrate our efforts on helping those in the most immediate peril. Second, I will need a list of who all knows and who all suspects that you are not who we have said you are. If you are hesitant to tell me in front of your peers, please contact me with that information via Legens. I will speak to all of them myself. Third, I believe the time has come for each of you to tell me what, if anything, you wish to change, and how you propose to go about it. From there, we can develop more a detailed plan of action for each of you. I should also like to continue meeting weekly to discuss your progress, as well as any problems that may have arisen.
"And finally, I would ask that each of you join the Duelling Club without delay, if you have not already done so, and I will encourage the others to do the same. At the end of the year, when Professor Crouch retires, I myself will be taking over sponsorship of the club. That will likely boost the membership to a small degree, as well. We will work on individual duelling skills in addition to co-ordinated combat tactics. For those of you who show exceptional aptitude, we will develop something of a quasi-prefect structure, in which you will work with your peers in smaller groups to give them more personalised guidance.
"Now ... are there any questions?" Albus finished with a cheerful smile that belied the gravity of what he had said before, but he saw no reason to wallow in it. Things could always be done to correct the oversights of the past. No reason to get bogged down in sorrow -- especially when there was work to be done.
