"How long?" Jon asked... but he didn’t expect an answer. "How long are we going to play this game?" Forge placed his pistol down on his bedside table then finished his whiskey. He savored the burn before his mechanized wrist snapped and sent the heavy glass into the wall.
The mangy cat just stared, pieces settled near its paws... but he hadn’t flinched.
A smirk ran across Forge’s face, "Oh well, one of us will slip up. One day." Forge clicked his lamp off, but they never broke eye contact. Jon knew... because the cat’s eyes smoldered in the darkness.

When he walked into his office it seemed the same as it always did. Hank knew it was a ruse, however. He set his coffee down on the desk before he took a seat. A grin spread across his face as he looked down as he looked down into another
face
, made of Oreos and winking up at him. They were on top of a pile of tests. It usually made him happy to discover the surprises Alison left around his office. He was glad today wasn’t a ‘hunting’ day.

His arms felt an all-too-familiar tug. The contents of his stomach threatened to reappear. That sound. He heard it through all the chaos and distance and time.
Snap
.
He woke up, his face wet. His hair was wet, too. But there were tears mingled with the sweat running down his jawline. Peter's chest pounded with the beating of his adrenaline-fueled heart. He let out a noise that was between a sob and a sigh, and he fell backwards into his pillow, hands going to his face to cover his eyes. She was gone - it was his fault - sleep wasn't happening.
