"Sweetheart, I'd take ya to Bermuda if you asked me."
The soft laughter in his voice brought a twinkle to her dark-colored eyes. Was it amusement? Mischief? It was likely the latter. "I'll have to remember that the next time I have a sudden yen for sand, surf, and sun." It would happen too. Probably after the snow lost its charm, which seemed to happen more quickly with each passing year. Snow sort of lost its validity after Christmas, in her opinion. After that it just seemed more of a slushy, icy annoyance than anything else. But that was neither here nor there at the present moment. As they say, 'When you take care of the present the future will take care of itself.'
"Something cozy," Rhia replied after giving it some thought, "maybe soup and sandwiches?" Grilled cheese and tomato soup was always a crowd pleaser. "Or Olive Garden... ooh! Or The Cheesecake Factory!" She added just when he spun her out and her light purple skirt twirled out. She giggled at his impetuousness and the reference. But in all seriousness, you couldn't go wrong with pasta or cheesecake either. If she ever had to go on a real diet, she was going to be so screwed. She didn't have much self-control where food was concerned. Or shopping. Kiernan was helping her with that latter, however. Well... somewhat, at least.
Alas, he still had more work ahead of him. Not that he seemed to mind. He liked ladies with vices, after all.
"You pick. Either of those choices are all aces."
"Don't ever second guess layin' one on me. I've waited too long as it is."
"I guess you're right. You aren't the only one who's waited too long." She smiled. Both of them had their share of emotional baggage, which explained the waiting. If only they'd be wiser, they might've been able to use each other for support years ago. C'est lie vie. There was no use in dwelling on what might have been. Russ Dr. Holden had made that clear. What she needed to do now was not look to past regrets or worry about the future, but focus on 'the now'; the present. It was good advice.
