There was a great chance that Meggan had seen some sort of retelling of the Arthurian legend on the television, but knowing that her reading lessons were finally taking hold, Brian had decided to track down a copy of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table for her to try and begin. Or, rather, for them to start together. The story was a very important part of English literature - one of the very oldest 'myths' - and it was dear to the doctor's heart.
The abridged, illustrated version was certainly a simplistic sort, but the bones of the true Arthurian themes were there. Most importantly, in Brian's mind, was the legendary arc involving Morgan le Fay tempting Guinevere into straying from her husband; into lusting after Lancelot. Meggan, who was so very impressionable, needed to learn to differentiate friend from foe and to trust her instincts over what someone 'smarter' had told her to do. She looked down upon herself, as if she wasn't on par with the other young women her age. Her self worth had been dashed by her confused and ill-advised family. Brian and his own siblings had been groomed and polished and built up to be as successful and confident as humanly possible - or so it had seemed. Ironically, the excessive attention he'd gotten as a young man, and the lack of attention Meggan had experienced, had left them both feeling a little sorry about their lost days of childhood freedom and normalcy.
So, while on a normal basis Brian would've remained indoors and urged Meggan to trudged through the reading he'd prepared, or even worked on her posture simultaneously, he fully intended to go have a romp outdoors and enjoy the last of the warm(ish) weather. He tucked the book under his arm, stood from his desk, and made for the door, hopefully in time to meet Meggan at the elevator to the subbasement before she wasted time wandering the hallways.
The lift doors opened before he could push the button and he smirked. At least she was rarely tardy. He leaned the upper half of his body to the side so that his head could peek into the opening elevator, and when Meggan's bright eyes met his, he beamed, then chuckled. He'd surprised her. "Good morning, Meggan." The doctor slipped his hand forward to keep the door from closing, them stepped in to join the blond girl. "Would you mind if we ventured outside today?" he asked, knowing full well she preferred the outdoors, and the twinkle in his eyes reflected that. "I thought we could ready a bit and talk about history..." Once, of course, they'd landed. But he wasn't going to tell her they were about to fly off to Neverland. Surprises were much more fun.
