The hug was appreciated and unexpected, but wonderful, and Max couldn't help the blush that crept into his cheeks. He bumped his shoulder against hers in a 'hello there, friend!' kind of motion before he glanced around and then shrugged. "I apparently do come here often," was his answer which he chased with a grin.
He scratched the back of his head after a moment and squinted up toward the sun. "I couldn't get into the room last night. None of the doors or elevators or anything work when we touch them. So I came back out and slept on the beach again. When Jeremiah and I went into the hotel, the doors still didn't work. Oh, and no one can hear us when we talk to them. They changed their recipe for the blueberry muffins, by the way. You're going to want to avoid those."
Max paused for a pant of breath before continuing. "Teddy and I tried talking to someone at the front desk, but they were either really good at ignoring us or .. well, or I'm not sure. He dared me to climb onto the desk after they refused to acknowledge us and then they did nothing about it. I was expecting some kind of a reaction. But we think we're being shunned because we asked too many questions about the treasure. My theory is that we're hallucinating or dreaming, but I guess we'll find out soon, huh? Those things only last for so long."
He canted his head to the side now, dropping his gaze to her face. "I don't remember seeing you yesterday. Where were you?"
