There was, of course, a chance that the other girl might turn tail and find the nearest hotel employee likely to share her concerns about strange guests vaulting over prohibited barriers. Sydney chose to climb over the wall anyway. It was a gamble. But not much of one, when she really thought about it. The other girl didn't look concerned. Her face wasn't twisted in a clear expression of horror or disapproval or contempt. If anything, Sydney thought she looked curious. And, when they were both on the darker side of the doorway, that seemed to be all the confirmation she needed.
Sydney pulled her bag around by the strap so she could unzip the outer pocket, pulling out two flashlights. She still always brought two, even though this was the first time in a long time she'd had a partner. Syd clicked the first light on, passing it over to her companion, then zipped the bag back up and clicked her flashlight on as well. The question made her smile a bit. "I only just arrived this morning," she said. It was a funny detail, unnecessary really, but if Sydney had been here two whole days, she was sure this wouldn't just be her second trip into the hall. "If you mean climbing walls in general, or climbing into places I'm not strictly allowed to be, well, I've loads of practice with that." Sydney knew, of course, this was not the answer the other girl was after. She wasn't intentionally avoiding the question. If anything, she was trying to ease a bit of the heaviness this day had already settled on her shoulders. Lightening moods was a habit of hers, even in a place like this.
"With this hallway in particular though?" she continued, as she turned to face forward, casting her light down the hallway. It was worse at night somehow. Even though it had been dark and grim earlier, it was still worse now. Colder and eerier. "I went to see my brother's room earlier. Thought it might be worth a second trip." She didn't see the harm in honesty. Not when they were both on the wrong side of the Do Not Enter signs, breaking the rules together. "I'm Sydney, by the way."
