[log] Detective Crispus Allen and Detective Renee Montoya
Summary: Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen check out Arkham Asylum, only to come up short-handed.
Det. Allen: Detective Crispus Allen walks away from the final security gate on the way out of Arkham Asylum with his hands in his pants pockets. He isn't happy with how tonight has gone, doing the routine check on Gotham's resident psychopaths over this dead Robin case. "This was a god damn waste of time, Renee."
Det. Montoya: "Just make sure not to tell that to anyone. If anyone asks, we did a thorough investigation into the inmates but just didn't find anything pertaining to the case." Which is cop babble for they didn't achieve a damn thing. But that doesn't surprise her since the inmates had already been visited by someone else. She strolls into step along side her partner. "There's other places to look, Cris."
Det. Allen: "Anyplace the Bat hasn't already been?" Most times, Cris has no serious problems with Batman. It's just those rare times where their cases intertwine that he gets frustrated. It's a big reason he prefers being on day shift. "You saw that in there. What he did to them before we even got here. How are we supposed to make a case like this? We're further down the ladder on this than just secondary."
Det. Montoya: Renee has been aware of Cris' occasional issues with Batman, and sometimes she lets it slide. Though really she just gives him a break because Cris doesn't know what Gotham was like before Batman showed up. "If you were some masked vigilante who had dead kids showing up dressed up like the one that helps you out I'm sure you'd be moving through these things quickly." Not that she's siding with Batman on this one. She does get why Batman would be doing it. "You've been here long enough that you know how things go." They're just in an even worse spot because this is going to be personal for him.
Det. Allen: "If that was me, then someone should know enough to pull me off the case because my head isn't in the game." Unfortunately, Batman is outside the system so no one can pull him from a case -- no matter how necessary it might be. "I haven't been here long enough to accept it." He gets it. He does. Gotham is so screwed at times that it needs Batman. But as far as Cris is concerned, that's not reason to accept it as the status quo. That's not a status quo anyone should just roll over and accept.
Det. Montoya: "You weren't here at all before he was here to know how bad it was before he showed up." But this is an old argument, even though they'll probably have it again sometime. "There's no trade out there that doesn't have a some bad with the good." Renee digs through her pockets for the car keys, they should be heading back to the station.
Det. Allen: Cris isn't interested in before Batman. He's more interested in there being an after Batman. "You should try looking for better deals sometime, Renee." It sounds like she must get ripped off a lot. He heads around to the passenger side of the car.
Det. Montoya: As long as Cris isn't holding his breath on that, its a lousy way to lose a partner. "I know, look who I traded my last partner for. Life doesn't make it a habit of handing me over any good deals." The keys slide into the driver's side door and unlocks, Renee leaning it and hitting the lock button to let Cris in before she gets in.
Det. Allen: "Ha ha. You think you're funny." Cris opens the door and sldes into the passenger seat. "Gotham doesn't like people who think they're funny." He pulls the door shut and lowers the window a crack so he can smoke on the way back. "This is going to escalate." The dead Robin case. He thinks more is going to happen.
Det. Montoya: "I didn't say I was funny." That was the complete truth. For awhile anyways. She wasn't happy to have Cris at first, partners always take time to grow on each other and it didn't help that Harvey was still around. The window rises up again, thanks to the window controls being on her side. "You could have smoked before we got in the car." She locks the windows and puts the car in reverse. "I know. But we all knew that when the second body showed up."
Det. Allen: "There'll be a third at this rate. Whoever's doing this isn't getting what they want. And two? These things don't happen in pairs. A third has to be on the way." Cris can't figure out what the message in this. And for the record, he's ignoring the dig about smoking. He rolled down the window, didn't he? Like Renee is never guilty of the same behavior. "Let's just get back. Maybe someone else has had some luck."
Det. Montoya: "Let's just hope someone finds whoever it is before we have a third on our hands." Because Renee is afraid if there's a third, it might not stop there. She drives out of the parking spot and slides the gear into drive. They'll head back to the station, but she's stopping on the way for coffee.
