"That seems the likeliest. But I don't know. There was nobody really except this one--" Barbara swallowed hard, rubbing her face with her hands briefly. "--this one guy, and he seemed more like the hired help." She ran circles along her carpet with her toes, before glancing up at Batman. "Anyway, I didn't want to talk about the details of what happened. I'll be happy to tell them to you later if you want, but I have other things to say first.
"The last time we spoke to each other, I told you that this was Gotham. That no one was safe. But...sometimes I feel less safe that Bruce Wayne walking in the Narrows at night in a suit made of greenbacks. My dad is a good man, but...he is who he is. He loves us, but he loves his job too so much. This family, we've all gotten dragged into it." She licked her lips briefly, swallowing hard. "I know you think it's safer for me to be just a college student and someday a librarian, but twice--" She trailed off, shaking her head. She lifted her eyes to meet Batman's. She wanted him to know that she was absolutely resolute. "I need to fix this town. I need to do more than just try and protect myself. I want your help, but if you won't agree to it then I'll just find some other way to be Batgirl again. To be better than I was in December."
