Blair Waldorf ([info]queenlyb) wrote in [info]gossipghoul,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Blair and Nate
What: Romancing the zombie apocalypse
Where: Inside the entrance to the Palace
When: Morning
Rating: Lowish (I'd guess!)

Now that sheer terror had faded, Blair did what she always did best-- try to turn circumstances to her advantage. Things had been distant between Nate and her since she'd learned the devastating secret about him and Serena. What better than a disaster to bring them closer together again? She would be vulnerable and in need of comfort... comfort she could only find in his study, Lacrosse-strengthened arms. Blair was no damsel, but she was very much in distress and figured this might be just the wake-up call Nate needed.

There was only one problem: she had no earthly idea where her boyfriend had gotten himself to. Thanks to Chuck, she was ready to face the world again, all of the traces of their bloody night erased from her person and attire. Really, all things considered, Blair thought she looked quite charming. She paused to admire her reflection in a hallway mirror, practicing her brave-but-appealingly-vulnerable, tremulous smile before heading to the restaurant. She frowned, glancing around and only seeing strangers who lingered at tables, looking haunted even as they dined on the best the Palace had to offer. He was missing from the bar as well, and from the lounge. Blair was growing more frustrated by the minute.

"You. Stop right there," she called out imperiously to one of Bart's hired guards, who had just come inside. She didn't bother looking behind him to see what the world outside of the hotel's confines looked, her mission was her only focus. "Have you seen Nathanial Archibald?"

Annoyed by the guard's blank stare, she let out an annoyed huff and fished out her cell phone. It had been utterly useless to her since the attacks had begun, but at least now it might be helpful. She flicked quickly to an image of Nate, holding her screen out to the man with an expectant expression on her face.

Blair was waving the phone with renewed insistence before the guard's face, as if with her displeased expression and sharp tone she could somehow will him into knowing the location of her missing boyfriend. Nate's familiar voice was a happy and unexpected interjection and she whirled to face him, the unhelpful stranger promptly dismissed and forgotten.

"Nate!" she squealed happily, launching herself into his arms. She had meant to appear stoic but shaken, perhaps even manage a single solitary tear when they finally met. Her genuine relief at seeing him alive and well made her forgot her carefully orchestrated intended roleplay.

"Serena said you all made it out okay," she added quickly, lest he believe he had a sociopath for a girlfriend. She had worried about Nate, truly. But it seemed for the best now that they hadn't met earlier, she had looked a fright and the last thing she wanted knocking around Nate's head was a less than flattering mental image of her. "But you are okay, right?"

Nate smiled as Blair ran towards him, not failing to notice the look of sheer relief on the face of the guard as Blair turned her attention from him and he was able to return to dealing with less scary things, like the flesh-crazed living dead.

He wrapped his arms around her, picking her up and he was unable to stop himself from spinning her around a little. He laughed; it really was good to see her. And she seemed genuinely happy to see him, too, which was nice. A day away from her games would be nice. Maybe zombies brought out the best in her?

He let her down and looked down at himself. “Yeah,” he said. “I'm okay. How are you doin'?”

Blair brightened further at Nate's impulsive gesture, happy to be the center of his attention. His inner thoughts were spot on, she was temporarily concerned with things beyond her social status or projecting the perfect image. Zombies left little room for other things.

"I'm fine," she assured him hurriedly, feeling renewed gratitude that her appearance at least was back to normal. "Just trying to process everything. It's just so... unbelievable."

She shook her head, trying to clear it of the horrible images that threatened to invade. "Do you know anything? How are your parents?"

Nate was glad to see that Blair seemed to be reacting to this whole thing in a manner that … well, was becoming if an actual human being. He in in support of that. Zombies might leave little room for other things, but you never knew with Blair; her concerns about her social standing also left room for little less, and you could never tell what was going to push it away, momentarily.

He set her down and tried to smile at her. It was getting hard to smile, lately, but she was bringing it out in him. He had to appreciate that, at least.

He shook his head. He had no idea about his parents. “How about your mom?”

"In Paris," Blair answered breezily, not remotely appreciative of just how lucky she was to have her family safely out of New York. She supposed she should be worried about Howard and Annie Archibald, they would be her in-laws one day after all, but it was hard to think of anything beyond relief at having finally found Nate.

"Do you think we'll be safe in here?" Blair asked, half out of lingering fear, half out of a desire to inspire Nate's protective side.

Nate wasn't too worried about his parents, actually. He was pretty sure that there wasn't a zombie in the universe that could possibly take down his mom. She was just too much of a b-word. As long as his dad stuck by her, he would be fine.

Or, maybe they wouldn't. They were kind of awful, anyway, and Nate was still stoned.

He shrugged. “Probably,” he said. He didn't mention that this safe houses never really worked in all of the zombie movies that he'd ever watched. There was always a point where that other shoe dropped. That's why he had his lacrosse stick with him. But she didn't need to know that, not yet. Especially because things never happened in real life the way they did in movies. He realized he needed to be more verbal with his assurances: “Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure Bart knows what's going on. We're safe.”

Blair slowly nodded at this belated and not terribly convincing reassurance, wishing she could dismiss her fears completely. Still, she might as well put her lingering unease to good use. Trying to look appealingly fragile, she leaned slightly into Nate, as if seeking protection from his larger frame.

"I'm glad you're here with me," she murmured, all trace of the irate, bossy girl who had just yelled at the guard hidden away. However, her sweet, appealing tone did not last for long.

"I wish you'd managed to recruit the rest of the lacrosse team with you, though." She glanced dismissively at the other people milling about the hotel lobby. "No one here looks capable of putting up much of a fight," she added dryly, utterly oblivious to own hypocrisy. Blair's only contribution so far had involved lots of screaming and running.

Nate laughed, giving his lacrosse stick a spin. Now there was the girl he had been dating for … well, for his entire life. He might have kind of liked the other girl she'd been for a moment, but spending to long with her would probably get him freaked out, remind him of the life and death stakes. He didn't want to be reminded until he came down, at least. “I was the only useful guy on that team, anyway, and you know it.” He chuckled.

But this was serious: “I'm glad you're here, too.”
