Now that she could account for the people she cared about most, the adrenaline was beginning to wear off and Serena began to realize exactly how much of a toll the evening had taken on her. There were surely going to be countless reports of missing people that she knew, and that was going to be devastating, but the sheer fact that her nearest and dearest were okay was more than she could have hoped for.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," she responded emphatically. With extra thanks to Bart Bass, which was something she didn't even want to think about. A Bass-van der Woodsen household was just a weird idea to contemplate. "Are you okay?" she added, searching his expression for any sign of... well, zombie-ism. Something that would tell her that things hadn't turned out like she had hoped and Dan was already infected. "I didn't know if you'd make it." Which was, clearly, something that had worried her.
Serena had to internally shudder at the idea of making it to The Palace on her own. Her trip had been frightening enough, but she'd also been transported in a luxury helicopter not fending for herself.
