Re: Dan and Nate
"Really?" Dan said, disbelief coloring his voice and expression. It seemed wildly unfair to him at that moment. Nate had so much going for him-- his friends, his wealthy family, his hallowed position on the Lacrosse team, his perch at the very top of the social hierarchy; if that wasn't enough, he had also apparently lucked out of experiencing the worst of the previous night's horrors.
"I was late for the party... late to meet up with Serena," he clarified, stressing her name just a tiny bit. He knew that Blair and Nate were still a couple, had been one since Dan remembered being aware of them as individuals. But Blair's revelation about Nate and Serena's one night stand had shaken Dan's confidence. "And I... saw one. And then there was more than one."
He shuddered, remembering the horrible moaning sound and wild eyes. "I still have no clue what they were. Everyone outside was freaking out, and the news reports I overheard were useless. It doesn't seem like anyone knows what's going on." He realized he was talking too much, the words coming out of his mouth fast and furious, but Dan couldn't seem to stop himself from babbling. Now safely inside the Palace, he found his mind struggling to process all he had seen since exiting that cab the day before.
