After Chuck had returned to the lobby, he occupied himself for a few minutes by scrolling through his phone and sending idle texts to various friends and acquaintances, but this didn't take too long since, despite his popularity at parties and the like, there weren't actually very many people he cared about, even enough to see if they'd survived the attack. He didn't feel particularly bothered by this, though, since the feeling was pretty mutual - after all, his phone hadn't lit up with messages after the attack. Even his father hadn't called him until Chuck had sent a message to him first.
He'd been sure to send a quick message to his father to thank him and let him know that he was safe, and when he caught sight of the others, he reported that they were safe, too. That done, he wandered casually toward the bar. Despite the scotch he'd had in his room, it seemed like the place to be, especially since it looked like Serena and Blair were reuniting there.
He stepped into earshot of their conversation, and his brow furrowed just slightly. Blair was saying something about the joining of the Bass and Van der Woodsen families. Somewhere in his stomach, a knot tightened. In all the insanity, he'd honestly managed to forget about the awful Gossip Girl blast that seemed to be earth-shattering before the school was attacked, and renewed realization that other people knew about this hit him like a ton of bricks.
Forcing his face back into its natural deadpan, he swaggered over to Blair and Serena. "Oh yeah, my dad's well-known for looking after his own." His voice, despite its typical Chuck-Bassian rasp, was strangely unsarcastic. When times were really tough - as now - Chuck knew full well that his dad really would move mountains to get him out of trouble. Of course, typically that service came with a lecture and subsequent silent treatment, but that wasn't the point. "You'll love it in our family, Serena. It's not dysfunctional at all." In the last part of the sentence, however, he did let sarcasm slip in, but as he looked back up at Serena his tone seemed was genuine. "Any news from your brother?"
