"Don't worry," Bart suddenly found himself saying, without ever having made the conscious decision to do so. "There's nothing for you to worry about. You'll be at the Palace in under an hour, and I'll take care of everything else."
What were all those years of toil and dodgy ethics worth if he couldn't protect his own son? Bart was still grimly determined to keep a tight lid on this entire debacle, but he was even more committed to making sure that this was the last brush with danger that Charles experienced. He could save his altercations for bouncers and offended boyfriends from here on out.
"I'll see you when I can get away," Bart returned, already wondering when he would be able to break away from his desk long enough to meet up with Chuck. "Stay safe, Charles."
