Re: Chuck and Blair - 10:20 PM
This was unacceptable. Blair surveyed the room once more with an annoyed dash of her head. And to think that she had been so eager for tonight-- well, she was eager for any event that allowed her to bask in her unassailable position of power over the rest of her classmates. That was the one charm these school events held over her own parties. Here she could feel the envious eyes of her social inferiors upon her, people she would never have dreamed of inviting to her own functions. Really, it was intoxicating.
But tonight she had had an agenda. She had intended to demonstrate plainly to everyone that absolutely nothing had changed with Serena's unexpected return. The two of them were back to being friends, Nate was still her doting boyfriend, and Blair was the school's queen bee. But it would be a difficult message to send given the pathetic attendance rate. She caught Chuck's gaze across the room just as an annoyed frown had settled on her face. Well, he was possibly the last person she needed to trouble herself with convincing, but at least he might be amusing company. Without weighing the issue too closely, she crossed the room to him, too cross to even take much pleasure out of the few admiring glances she did receive.
"The fact that this is a ghost town doesn't have anything to do with your nefarious dealings does it?" she asked Chuck instantly, with a meaningful glance down at his drink. She would have bet her trust fund it wasn't punch in that glass. What if it wasn't sickness, but wild intoxication, that was the reason behind this near-empty room?
