HALLOWEEN DANCE

HALLOWEEN DANCE

Afternoon classes are cancelled in preparation for the beloved Halloween Dance. Chaos overtakes the school as everyone scrambles to perfect their costumes, or the Atrium's decorations. The dance may not start until 7:00 PM, but there's a lot of work to be done before then. And after that particularly vicious anonymous post, some students could use the distraction.

After dinner, students have a little more time to run back to their cabins, throw on their costumes, and find their date if they have one. Joanna May and [Dateless Character Y] are mistaken for a couple when they stop to discuss a very large squirrel they saw. They impulsively decide to go to the dance together, because why not.

Finally, the sun starts to set, and it's time for the dance. Upon entering the Atrium, students discover it's been transformed into a stunning haunted Victorian manor... with a rather rustic log cabin feel. Cobwebs are carefully arranged on dusty velvet curtains, and fake bats flutter around the upper levels in time to the music. Books occasionally rattle on fake bookshelves, and stern-faced portraits will scream "boo!" at any wallflowers who let their guards down. The Atrium is lit only by blue, green and purple lights, giving it an appropriately moody feel, and all teachers and staff have decided to get into the spirit by donning their sharpest-looking Victorian costumes.

At the refreshments table, the eerily lit punch bowl constantly emits fog from dry ice, and an array of spooky snacks have been created by the house-elves. Decorated skulls, bloodshot eyeballs, vampire teeth, giant spiders, tiny tombstones shoved into cups of chocolate "dirt"β€”these creepy offerings are in fact incredibly delicious, even if some of them might look just a little too realistic. Vegan options are also available, and will be pointed out by Prospero.

Outside on the large balcony overlooking the lake, potted trees and magically flowering bushes have been scattered about, along with little benches and soft fairy lights, giving a fairytale feel that cooperates nicely with the idea of a Victorian garden. The surrounding area is full of jack-o-lanterns and candles.

Anyone who needs to go to the restrooms will find that someone has taken cutouts of aliens and UFOs and decorated the doors, walls and mirrors with them. A small musical device is playing the X-Files theme on repeat.
  • Afternoon classes are cancelled.
  • By 2:00 PM, the Atrium is fully cleared out and decorating begins.
  • Dance starts at 7:00 PM and lasts until 11:00 PM.
Setup: After lunch, Event Committee, staff and volunteers help to get the Atrium looking its best. Event Committee has thrown up magically impenetrable curtains around the Atrium, so even students headed in for dinner at 6 PM won't be able to see what they're working on.

Before the Dance: Glitter, hairspray and bloody makeup fills every cabin as students ready their costumes!

The Beginning of the Dance: Students are allowed into the Atrium and get to admire the decorations and one another's costumes. The student band, The Holy Rosicrucians, plays a short set to get things started. (~7:00 PM)

The Middle of the Dance: Finally, things really take off! There's dance music, refreshments, and everyone is milling about freely. (~8:00-11:00 PM)

The Balcony: The balcony overlooks the lake, and some students mingle out here to chat or appreciate the scenery. (~8:00-11:00 PM)

Outside by the Docks: Even more privacy and quiet. It's a little eerie down here, though... (~8:00-11:00 PM)

End of the Night: The dance is wrapping up, and everyone begins to return to their cabins. (~11:00-12:00)

Detention: Sylvester Stoker, Rosemary Stoker, Reid Wainwright, Ursula de Luca, Kurt Wolfhart, Riley Stamper, Olivia Sanchez, Casper Kim, Casey Patterson and Jacob Wood are all expected to show up for detention. They will be assisting in cleaning up the Atrium after the dance. If your character does not show, there will be IC repercussions. (~11:00-12:00)

Late Night: After the dance has long since passed, is there anything else happening? (12:00 AM onwards.)

Cecil doesn't seem to have any interest in cool swagger and he goes to Levi immediately, closing the distance between them and putting a hand on the other boy's arm, tracing the length of it until he finds his hand and clumsily squeezes it. "Waiting for you," he answers directly and laughs a little, "What do you think?" Then he leans in, bumping the other boy's nose before stealing a quick kiss and adding, "You were really good up there, though."

Levi doesn't immediately recognize that something is off about Cecil-- he just assumes that watching his totally cool and handsome musician boyfriend on stage has made him excitable. The flirt look on stage absolutely did the trick, just as he told Casper it would. DAMN, LEVI, YOU'RE SO GOOD.

And so he doesn't think much of the quick peck on the lips other than CUTE!!! Cecil was getting bolder with his affection and that was a good sign!!

"Did you swoon?" he asks in a teasing tone, leaning forward to nuzzle noses. PDA right outta the gate. "Did your heart flutter?"

"I'm still swooning," Cecil teases back, patting his other hand against Levi's chest to emphasize each word, "This. Is me. Swooning." He leaves his hand pressed against the front of Levi's suit and leans into him as a slightly dizzy feeling rolls through him like a wave. But it's gone almost immediately and he smiles at Levi again. "I'm glad you're back, though. I didn't want to dance with somebody else. I only want to dance with you."

Okay, that was just a little weird. Levi was familiar with most of Cecil's Cecilisms, but this one was new to him. Though that's not to say he didn't enjoy the abundance of attention. Still, he was beginning to notice that off-ness about him.

"Only with me~? Now I'm going to swoon." He lifted the hand resting on his chest to press a kiss into his palm. "I would've been horribly jealous if anyone stole the first dance with you. Shall I take that first of yours too?" Levi nodded his head toward the dance floor, grinning.

Cecil laughs brightly, seemingly delighted by the idea of Levi doing the swooning for once. "Only with you," he confirms, "I've got a boyfriend now. My dance card's all full. Unless you count Cheer Squad, I guess." He doesn't stop talking -- rambling? -- until Levi presses a kiss into his palm. It feels good and he exhales a content sigh before moving both of their hands out of the way so he can kiss Levi again, more deeply than before. It's a clumsy kiss (though, at this point, aren't they all?), but very enthusiastic.

When he draws back, he answers eagerly, "You can take all my firsts." He either doesn't realize or doesn't care how this sounds and is soon trying to pull Levi out onto the dance floor. "C'mon!"

Levi was caught off guard, not anticipating tasting that much of Cecil's mouth tonight nor his bold response to Levi's cheeky request. He's not put off by it in the least, though it immediately pinpoints the cause of the off. Cecil doesn't drink, Cecil doesn't break the law, Cecil cares about being a good Head Boy, and part of him is wary about the cause of is public intoxication. But he doesn't want to assume the worst, he just wants to assume that Cecil is having his first bout of teenage rebellion in the most innocuous way. But...

Deciding better than to counter with a smarmy I plan to, Levi gives a laugh and lets himself be pulled out on to the dance floor. "Whatcha been drinking, Honeybunny?" He tries to keep the question light, but he just needs clarification to ease his mind.

Cecil looks back at Levi, still beaming and giddy and eager...but maybe a little confused too. "What?" He can't imagine why Levi would ask him that and it takes him a moment to even remember, but then he adds, "I had some punch earlier. I think that's all there is? Do you need a drink?"

Levi slows their eager pace to the dance floor, but doesn't let go of Cecil's hand. His smile quickly fades to a thin, unamused line. "Somebody spiked the punch, then," he says flatly. He thought he could taste a hint of it on his lips-- getting fucked up on vodka and Hawaiian Punch was his intro into drinking-- but his odd behavior told him enough. "Are you feeling okay? How much did you have?"

Cecil stops, but only because he's still holding onto Levi, and turns to face the other boy. He still looks confused and he blinks a few times before he protests, "I'm fine. I'm not." Drunk? Does Levi think he's drunk? He doesn't know what being drunk feels like, but he's fairly certain he'd know it if he was. And it was just punch. Except. "My head's a little..." he gestures vaguely with one hand in a way that means absolutely nothing, then shakes his head and steps closer to Levi, touching his cheek and trying genuinely to reassure him. Poor Levi. "But I'm fine. You worry too much. What're you worried about? Nobody'd spike the punch."

"Yes they would. It happened at Ribbonfin and that's why that giant, glittery rule list went out. Punch doesn't make your head a little..." He mimicked the useless gesture that Cecil had made. "Let's just find Mr. E and ask him to check?" Mr. E was chill enough to not break up the festivities over spiked punch. "In case someone else unknowingly drinks it?"

Still, Cecil mostly seems confused, like all of this is too much for him to consider right at the moment. He lowers his head a little and rubs at his face with one hand. He's still not sure...but he trusts Levi and this is what Levi wants, so he nods. "Okay," he agrees, looking up into the other boy's face, "Let's find Mr. Elmasry." He pauses, lips thinning for a moment before blurts abruptly, "Sorry. I'm sorry if I messed this up."

Levi can't help but laugh when Cecil apologizes. He pats him on the cheek and pecks him on the lips to reassure him. "Don't be sorry, Bun-ble Bee, you didn't mess anything up. We just need to give the staff a heads up about the punch before we start tearing up that dance floor."

He pulled on his hand, trying to lead him over to where Elmasry was.

Blatant, grateful relief washes across Cecil's face and, by the time their lips part, he's smiling again and looking at Levi like he's just given him the world. Even if he is drunk or whatever, they'll get to have their date and their dance and the night isn't ruined after all. So he can live with that. He squeezes Levi's hand and follows after him to find Mr. Elmasry.

After they've told Elmasry and Levi is awarded fifteen points, he shoots Cecil a smirk as if he just won him a giant stuffed teddy bear at the fair. "If anyone asks, it was your idea to tell the staff. I can't have people thinking I'm a responsible big brother or they're going to raise their expectations for me." He snickers, then affectionately adjusts the glasses on Cecil's face. "Now, c'mon and let's dance!"

For when Levi finds Elmasry

Mr. Elmasry, like the rest of the staff, is wearing a top hat and Victorian suit, immaculately tailored by Prospero. He's watching everything with a certain wistfulness, as he remembers what a big deal the Halloween Dance was during his Event Committee days.

However, he immediately snaps to attention at Levi's approach, and his expression grows just as serious when Levi expresses his concerns. "Every time. Yeah, I'll take care of it," Elmasry promises. He takes a step towards the punch bowl, and then looks back, as though he's just remembered that he's a teacher. "Thank you, Levi. Uh, fifteen points to Azurcrest." (Little does he know, those points are about to be lost.)
