SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

Monthly bonding is, as always, greeted with mixed enthusiasm. All the seniors will be taking boats out to Lone Wolf Island for a day hike, led by Mrs. O'Hare. There are storm clouds looming, but Mrs. O'Hare is certain that it's not going to be a big deal, and no gosh darn storm's going to keep her grounded!

Everything starts out normal enough, but unfortunately, Mrs. O'Hare's optimism has reached a little too far this time. An intense storm sets in, and the waters are too choppy for the students to return to the mainland. Mrs. O'Hare guides the students through the rain to a neglected old cabin.

"There used to be a mining camp around these parts!" she shouts over the rain. "This guy here's about all that's left. C'mon in, kids!"

Inside is musty, spidery and there's an angry raccoon that needs to be evacuated, but it'll do the trick. With the storm not letting up, it looks as though the seniors will be spending one very miserable night in this cabin with a dinner of granola bars, bananas and oranges. It's a tight fit in there, so everyone get to know your neighbors. Now this is what Mrs. O'Hare calls bonding!

THE HIKE: The earlier part of the day is a nice low impact hike around the island.

THE STORM: The rain hits hard, and everyone follows Mrs. O'Hare, who has an idea!

THE CABIN: There's a small cabin from the late 1800's out here on the island. Everyone crams inside and stays warm with heating charms and snugglepiles.

THE NIGHT: The seniors have to stay overnight. They manage to conjure up basic blankets and pillows, and warming charms are used liberally.

A NOISE: It's about 3:00 AM, when something slams into the side of the cabin, right by Robin Youngblood's snugglepile. WHAT WAS THAT?!?! [Character Y] screams as they see a man outside!! HE'S SCRAPING AROUND THE CABIN, HE'S TRYING TO GET IN, YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE. (After ten minutes of panic and shrieking teenagers, it's revealed to be a curious bear.)

THE MORNING: Everyone returns to Gooseberry, cranky but not much worse for wear.

Tabitha is hiding in a corner somewhere, and doesn't come over unless dragged. Ribbonfins will know this is out of character.

Sun-mi saw Ravi talking with Tabitha on the hike and had hoped she was feeling better and then Sun-mi got very distracted singing with Robin in the rain, but she definitely notices that Tabitha has been hanging off by herself in the cabin.

"Ah, Tabitha, Ravi is making sure everyone from Ribbonfin is staying warm tonight. He is.. organizing a group wherever Ras decided to drop himself." She scans the room, easily picking the blonde bum from the crowd, and points to him. If Tabitha doesn't head for the group immediately, she adds: "You have been quiet all day.. even before the rain. Is something the matter?"

Tabitha's eyes momentarily flick over to where Ras is so clearly noticeable - she is the teeny blonde to his blond giant - but then flicker back to a place opposite her on the wall. Her damp, frizzy hair is hidden under her grey hoodie (who even knew she owned one, Tabitha normally favours brights) and the half transfigured blanket looks more than a little pathetic, holes and all.

"OK" she replies, but it is an acknowledgement of Sun Mi's statement, not an agreement to come over. "I'm fine. I'd just rather not be here right now" she states flatly, snuggling further into her hoodie and pulling the blanket over her legs.

"Ah, yes, this was an unexpected turn of events." Sun-mi wrinkles her nose, thinking about the various things she's having to neglect tonight. "That blanket doesn't look very warm, why don't you come with me over to Ras and we'll get you a better one?"

Tabs shakes her head and tucks her hands into the pocket of her hoodie. "I'm fine here" she mutters, not wanting to get up.

Sun-mi looks disappointed, but she isn't going to force Tabitha to move. "Okay... you know where we are if you change your mind."

"I won't" she mutters, but it's pretty clear she doesn't mean a word of it.

However, Tabitha is stubborn enough to sit with her eyes closed, not sleeping and trying not to shiver instead.

Isaiah is frankly SHOCKED to NOT be the one protesting the cuddle pile.

He keeps an eye out for a while and then extricates himself long enough to drape his blanket over Tabitha because being cold is terrible and he can reenter the cuddle pile where it is warm because he isn't being the standoffish one for once.
