SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

Monthly bonding is, as always, greeted with mixed enthusiasm. All the seniors will be taking boats out to Lone Wolf Island for a day hike, led by Mrs. O'Hare. There are storm clouds looming, but Mrs. O'Hare is certain that it's not going to be a big deal, and no gosh darn storm's going to keep her grounded!

Everything starts out normal enough, but unfortunately, Mrs. O'Hare's optimism has reached a little too far this time. An intense storm sets in, and the waters are too choppy for the students to return to the mainland. Mrs. O'Hare guides the students through the rain to a neglected old cabin.

"There used to be a mining camp around these parts!" she shouts over the rain. "This guy here's about all that's left. C'mon in, kids!"

Inside is musty, spidery and there's an angry raccoon that needs to be evacuated, but it'll do the trick. With the storm not letting up, it looks as though the seniors will be spending one very miserable night in this cabin with a dinner of granola bars, bananas and oranges. It's a tight fit in there, so everyone get to know your neighbors. Now this is what Mrs. O'Hare calls bonding!

THE HIKE: The earlier part of the day is a nice low impact hike around the island.

THE STORM: The rain hits hard, and everyone follows Mrs. O'Hare, who has an idea!

THE CABIN: There's a small cabin from the late 1800's out here on the island. Everyone crams inside and stays warm with heating charms and snugglepiles.

THE NIGHT: The seniors have to stay overnight. They manage to conjure up basic blankets and pillows, and warming charms are used liberally.

A NOISE: It's about 3:00 AM, when something slams into the side of the cabin, right by Robin Youngblood's snugglepile. WHAT WAS THAT?!?! [Character Y] screams as they see a man outside!! HE'S SCRAPING AROUND THE CABIN, HE'S TRYING TO GET IN, YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE. (After ten minutes of panic and shrieking teenagers, it's revealed to be a curious bear.)

THE MORNING: Everyone returns to Gooseberry, cranky but not much worse for wear.

Tess is kind of impressed at how Maggie seems to look like she has literally just stepped off the pages of some sort of magazine that combines optimal outdoorsiness but also fashion.

For her part, Tess is typically prepared for these kinds of things, but not so much today. She threw on a coat, which may or may not have some supplies in the pockets from her last hike, but that's about it. No hat, no gloves, nothing like that. So she just follows behind most people, making this face >=(.

Part of Maggie's reason for going to Camping School is definitely for the #aesthetic

If Tess wanted to be grumpy and only hang out with other grumps, then that's too damn bad. Maggie's eagle eyes are scanning the entire group and once she spots a less-than-pleased Tess hanging behind, she grips the straps of her backpack and jauntily walks in place until Tess is forced to catch up to her by following the flow of the group. As soon as Tess starts to pass, Maggie slips in beside her to resume walking.

"Want to bond with me, Tessy?" she teases, noting her dour expression.

Tess was prepared to maintain her grumpiness against all attempts to cheer her - well, she was prepared for anyone except Maggie.

"Uh," she says, because she is not smooth. "Sure," she finally says, because she doesn't know how to get out of this in a nice way. She does wish she'd at least brushed her hair this morning.

"So, you brought a lot of stuff," she points out uselessly, then slightly less uselessly adds, "Hey, I can help you carry some stuff."

"I did," Maggie confirms the obvious, cheeky grin forming on her lips. She sees that Tess is incredibly under-prepared and doesn't even have a backpack to carry the offered 'some stuff' in. Her eyes flit to the lack of backpack, then back to Tess as she tries not to laugh. "I already have Nate enlisted as my pack mule. Unless you'd like to carry my backpack?"

"You think we'll need all that?" she asks. She's not quite sure what the cheeky grin is for, but she flashes a lopsided grin back anyway. "Oh, sure," she says, holding out a hand, "I can carry it for a while. It's part of my prefectly duties to assist the HG, right?" Yes that's definitely the only reason for sure.
