HUNGER GAMES: DAY 5

Only one day left. Will you survive?

THE RULES

You may not ‘kill’ someone while they’re naked. (If any "bits" are exposed.)
You may not ‘kill’ someone in their cabin, the bathroom, the showers, during a Grotto party, the infirmary, or in the cafeteria.
You may not ‘kill’ someone in front of a teacher. This is largely so that staff doesn’t catch onto this definitely reasonable and well-organized game created by sensible children.
If you actually hurt the other person in your murder attempt, you’re out of the game. The person who was injured takes your knife, and it’ll be as though they killed you.
Feel free to play out scenes of the kills, or attempted kills, on this post.
You and the other player decide the details of how the kill happened! The only information we will provide is the approximate time of the kill and who was killed.
Originally, player activity during the game was going to play a role in success, but the system ended up too complicated. However, when we get down to the final ~10 survivors on Friday, activity and strategy will count a great deal when it comes to who wins.
If there is an IC dispute over a kill, for instance, if Clarence got too violent and it was determined that he'd broken the rule, then your character(s) will need to go to Diego Morales and Clementine Decourt to have it settled. However, none of the kills officially listed on the Hunger Games kill posts will be changed. They are set in stone. Disputes are merely for roleplaying purposes. Keep this in mind while playing out your scenes!

First blood: Mina is killed by Veronica first thing in the morning. She was totally going to get around to killing Laurel today, too!

Morning: But Veronica doesn't last long, though, as Robin strikes right after breakfast. Soon after that, Rafael underestimates Hazel. (You could have saved him, Damon!) Continuing the sophomore murder spree, Pippa kills Damon.

Mid-day: To everyone's shock, Levi kills Robin after lunch. And then a bit later, Cricket kills Penny.

Evening: Her victory it short lived, though, as the reason for Tess' staring is revealed when she kills Cricket.

The last kill: Reid, unable to even hold a conversation with his target, falls to Laurel.

Levi packs his trusty pencil case with food, kisses Cecil several times for "good luck", and bolts from bathroom to staff member to bathroom on his way up to the astronomy tower for his next class. If he can just survive Astronomy, he knows he can survive the day because he's going on a canoe picnic with Cecil and will be inaccessible unless some asshole with an aquatic or flying animagus form sneaks up on him or something. (He's fully prepared to smack a suspiciously intelligent animal away with an oar for 400 dragots.)

Ah, good, the classroom's empty. Levi shuts the door behind him and checks under the tables for hidden Tributes before plopping on a bench for a brief respite. "Holy fuck," he breathes to himself, falling to his side to take a nice little rest on this bench. It's soft, and warm, and pillowy, and-- wait a fucking second. Levi whips his head around and yelps as he makes out a person-shape blended near-seamlessly into the bench and the wall behind it. "ROBIN, WHAT THE FUCK?" he cries from the comfort of his target's lap, both panic and amusement in his tone. "That's so fucking clever... Holy shit..."

Robin tried to stay quiet and still and very couch-like when Levi sat on him, because these were the sorts of risks he signed up for when he adopted this strategy of blending into seats.

But then Levi figured him out. It was just like with Tess. How were people seeing through his devilishly clever disguises?

"Aww man, don't ruin the game," he says, still trying to keep up the mindset of I am furniture, I'm just a piece of furniture. "Fuckin' Tess'll hear you."

Levi lowers his voice to a whisper, playing along, "Ah, shit, man, sorry. Is Tess after you? She's training to be an Auror, you know. If you've eluded the fuzz for this long, you're golden. I don't even know who's after me, so I've just been dodging everyone. -- You're not my killer, are you?" Levi seems relaxed despite his suggestion. He's almost certain that if Robin had him as a target, he'd have been taken out by now.

Robin narrows his eyes, because Levi is acting mighty suspicious. To be fair, the list or things that Robin considers mighty suspicious is longer than he is tall. If he tried to write them all out, he would get bored and also find you asking him to list all suspicious behaviors to be mighty fucking suspicious. Because there is literally no winning with this kid.

"Seem pretty fuckin' chill now, dontcha," he says and considers for a second if it would be worth missing Astronomy today to stay alive. Probably not. He really does not want to fail any of his classes. "Maybe I already stabbed you with that shit and you ain't even noticed." Robin, pretty sure the game doesn't work that way. The person definitely has to notice that they're dead.

	A wide and devilish grin spreads across Levi's lips as he flexes his wrist and taps Robin with the tip of the concealed plastic butter knife tucked into the wristband of his watch. Pippa's cunning plan to assassinate Damon while he taught her mancala didn't work, and stalking him around the lodge was also hopeless. It's time to get even sneakier! With her bright hair hidden under a hat, and a couple of camouflage streaks on her cheeks, Pippa finds an ideal AMBUSH SPOT on one of the trails leading from Coppertale. Being Essie's best friend has taught her a lot about hiding in bushes ~~and spying on cute boys~~, so she picks one with lots of foliage but that's practically hollow inside.

Biting her lip and clutching at her knife, Pippa waits for her target to show up. It's nearly lunch time. Surely he has to eat?

Why would you ever need five pages about a chimera? Isn't three enough? One for each head? Dimi had been up until two in the morning last night writing his paper for Magizoology. It was awful and he'd had a dream about them once he'd finally fallen asleep. In it, that perky little blonde girl he was supposed to stab had chased one through Hogwarts' great hall and defeated it with her own hands. Savage.

Oh well. At least it's all done, now. A solid B- effort (optimistically). Time for lunch! And caffeine! And then perhaps some sophomore hunting.

Dimi strolls down the trail toward the lodge feeling a little light-headed, oblivious to the tiny danger lurking beyond the trees.

Pippa is starting to get a little restless (and hungry -- she probably should have had a snack beforehand) but then -- is that the sound of footsteps? She holds her breath and doesn't move a muscle as Dimi comes along the trail. Her heart is pounding so loudly that she's sure he'll hear it. (How do predators not die from stress doing this all the time?!)

And then -- no time to think -- he's right in front of her hiding spot! With a yell, Pippa springs out of the bush, butter knife aimed right at Dimi's chest.

Dimi yelps, taken completely off guard by that warcry. He's so startled, when Pippa manages to stab him, it almost doesn't register and he stares dumbly for a second before realization hits. Thank Merlin. He's out of the game.

"Ah, Pippa!" He says, clutching the spot where she'd poked him. "How could you? I thought we were..." Dimi does some dramatic staggering, for effect, and then gasps, "Betrayed by my own apprentice!"

Pippa stares too, hardly able to believe she's finally taken out her target. Did she really just (not for real) kill a senior? A delighted smile spreads across her face and she giggles at Dimi's reaction, enjoying his theatrics. "Sorry!" she says automatically, and then coughs and squares her shoulders. "I mean, I bet you're sorry you underestimated me now!"

She's giddy from the adrenaline rush. She can't wait to tell all her friends!

Pippa's enthusiasm goads Dimi into playing along a bit longer. He "stumbles" to his knees, clutching the spot where he was poked and coughing dramatically.

"Despite your betrayal, my only hope is that you will succeed where I have failed." Dimi produces a plastic butter knife from his back pocket and presents it to her, "Godspeed, my treacherous pupil."

Thank Merlin, it's finally over with.

Oh, right! In all the excitement, Pippa had almost forgotten she has to take Damon's knife. She looks down at the name written on the handle and her heart sinks. Hazel is so tough!! But... she has to try at least. "I fear you're sending me to my death," she sighs, still in character, "but I cannot refuse the request of a dying man."

Speaking of dying, someone out there is still trying to kill her, and she's all alone on a trail. Well, not completely alone. Pippa looks down at Dimi hopefully; he doesn't seem the type to hold a grudge. "Walk with me to the lodge?" she asks.

Xavier had a run in with that Coppertale seeker today. It scared the shit out of him and for a second he thought the kid had a knife with his name on it.

But, then, the guy just did a total about-face and walked off when Zav said, "Hey, man, what can I do for you?"

What was that about??

Xavier's pretty sure that Wainwright kid is BFFs with his target, though. So this incident sets him on high alert for the rest of the day. Now he's convinced that Sy has his knife and Reid was just some kind of surveillance attempt.

Zav's so spooked that after Astronomy he ACTUALLY STAYS AFTER CLASS to talk to Ms. Whittle about what it's like attending a muggle university and how a wizard with parents who look down on such things might, himself, get into one. He discusses his interest in pursuing a mathematics degree with her. About the possibility of getting a Masters, even. It's super awkward, highly educational and possibly the most overtly forward thinking and motivated thing Xavier has done all year. Thanks for that, Reid.

Xavier does his best to drag out their chat as long as possible. Once he parts ways with the teacher, he sprints back to the cabin to hide until it's time for the party. He even skips dinner, opting instead to raid his stash of snacks.

Maybe that's why that first shot hit him so hard.

	JENNY did you have any thoughts re: how/when/where Dimi is killed?? I feel like Pippa is going to try hiding somewhere and then JUMPING OUT at him, so maybe in the library or on a trail somewhere? Pippa has Potions 9-10 and Dimi has Magizoology 10-11 so there's an IDEAL TIMESLOT FOR MURDER in the hour before lunch. >:) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

OMG, that is perfect. Right out of Magizoology, Dimi would probably be crashing after the adrenaline rush of trying to get a 5 page paper done on time. So he'd be an easier target. She could totally catch him off guard on one of the trails on the way to lunch.

He'd probably say something dramatic like, "Did mancala mean nothing?! How can you do this to your own mentor?!" But would be very good-natured about handing over his knife and wishing her luck.
