HUNGER GAMES: DAY 2

HUNGER GAMES: DAY 2

Day two, and people are getting into the swing of things. More and more students fall, and are removed from the game. Paranoia is beginning to set in as the teenagers realize how easy it is to get eliminated by even the softest and sweetest classmates! Don't trust anyone, not even the kids that ordinarily wouldn't hurt a fly.

THE RULES
  • You may not ‘kill’ someone while they’re naked. (If any "bits" are exposed.)
  • You may not ‘kill’ someone in their cabin, the bathroom, the showers, during a Grotto party, the infirmary, or in the cafeteria.
  • You may not ‘kill’ someone in front of a teacher. This is largely so that staff doesn’t catch onto this definitely reasonable and well-organized game created by sensible children.
  • If you actually hurt the other person in your murder attempt, you’re out of the game. The person who was injured takes your knife, and it’ll be as though they killed you.
  • Feel free to play out scenes of the kills, or attempted kills, on this post.
  • You and the other player decide the details of how the kill happened! The only information we will provide is the approximate time of the kill and who was killed.
  • Originally, player activity during the game was going to play a role in success, but the system ended up too complicated. However, when we get down to the final ~10 survivors on Friday, activity and strategy will count a great deal when it comes to who wins.
  • If there is an IC dispute over a kill, for instance, if Clarence got too violent and it was determined that he'd broken the rule, then your character(s) will need to go to Diego Morales and Clementine Decourt to have it settled. However, none of the kills officially listed on the Hunger Games kill posts will be changed. They are set in stone. Disputes are merely for roleplaying purposes. Keep this in mind while playing out your scenes!

First blood: As the sun rises, Matteo is the first to fall at the hands of Penny.

Morning: The morning turns out to be violent, as Olivia takes out Tabitha, and Hazel creeps up on Casey. Before lunch, Quinn finishes off Roxie, and Ennis sweetly stabs Chris in the back.

Mid-day: The killing doesn't end, and right after lunch Avery is caught unawares by Jacob, and Rafael removes Jaime from play. In between classes, Leo stabs Henrietta, to the horror of a few freshmen who are fans of the star Seeker. In the late afternoon, Garrett ends up on the wrong end of Dominic's knife.

Evening: Will and Jeffy put on a scene as the former kills the latter. And then, gasp! A betrayal! Xavier is Ursula's undoing. Not long after, Ty (a remarkably cute boy) stabs Essie.

The last kill: Before the day is out, Sylla dispatches Ennis, despite his earlier victory against Chris.

Jeffy & Quinn: (ATTEMPTED) MURDER IN THE LIBRARY
[info]magicnumber

OH NO, CAUGHT. Jeffy clears his throat, looking left and right like he’s super casual and subtle here, and makes sure his knife is very securely shoved in his pocket. Uh, no killing happening here Ms. Petrichor, definitely no one about to fake die right now.

With his sneaking plan in utter shambles (his plan was literally “be sneaky” and he couldn’t even do that), he tries to improvise a new plan. “Hey! Uhhhh,” yep, goin’ great. “I hope you’re not gonna kill me, because, uh, I had a question. About……” You can do this, Jefferson. “Quidditch practice?”

If he had managed to not turn that into a question, there’s about a 30% chance that could have been believable. Jeffy, rather unwisely, tries to take a step forward.

"Oh, Key. I could never kill you!" Welcome to today's bold-faced lie. "And I'd be more than happy to entertain your questions about prac–" shiiiiiit. Where'd the librarian go? She fucking left? Suddenly aware that she's in Prime Killing Position and there's no staff safety net left, Quinn refuses to panic. She panics just a little. She has to save face. "–practice. Let's just... find somewhere quieter." ... than the middle of the library. She nods toward the Bear Cave at the end of the stacks and starts walking to the safety of the Ebonhides, quicker than she should be. Keep your cool, Cunningham.

Of course her name would be pulled by the most athletic sophomore with a stride the size of fucking Newfoundland. Of. Fucking. Course.

So, clue #1 that Jeffy is not made for this game: he totally believes Quinn when she says she could never kill him. And not just because he’s the one doing the killing here. She just sounded so genuine! But, hang on, why was she walking so fast? Toward Ebonhides? Was there a prefect in there that would put a stop to this nonsense? Was there a teacher in there?

“I mean, you know there’s nothing in the library louder than me,” he says, picking up the pace, his long legs easily keeping up with Quinn no matter how fast she could speedwalk. He comes up alongside her, his hand not very subtly slipping into his pocket as he tried to come up with a way to continue his cover story. Uhhhh. “So… what day is the next practice again?” Good cover, good cover, you’re a natural at this.

"I do, I do." Coming up on the Bear Cave, and... damn. No Gillis in sight. She'd hoped that having the Head Girl around would deter Key. She slides easily around the edge of the stack and knows, in that moment, that she needs to act now or she's dead. She knows what the hell's in his pocket. "It's on–" and Jeffy never finds out, because Quinn's off at a sprint to the library doors.

It’s on? It’s on what Quinn??? As if he really needs to know, Jeffy does the most cursory of glances around to make sure no one was watching and possibly glaring at him, and then he’s off too. Quinn’s head start is a help, but Jeffy is fast and tall, he should be able to catch her if he figures out where she’s going! He shoots off toward the doors too, but before he can cut her off he has to take a detour around a group of very serious studiers (school is important!!! He can’t interrupt them, even for murder!!!), and he finds himself momentarily lost in the stacks.

But Quinn can’t be too far. She was headed for the doors, and he can see them, he can see the doors from where he’s at, he can still catch her.

Trying the sneaking approach once more, Jeffy puts his back to the wall and slides along toward the doors. If she doesn’t know he’s there, maybe she’ll just walk right into his trap.

Or maybe not.

Maybe she’ll just run right past him, who knows.

Yeah, it's the "run right past him" thing. Who stops for their murderer, Jeffy? WHO?!

She shoves the door open with her shoulder and a solid thud and heads for the Atrium, taking the steps three at a time. All she needs to do is hit the cafeteria and she's safe, but the Atrium's full of students, coffee tables, couches, and chairs.

... Well, she's read about parkour. May as well try it. She shoots Jeffy a grin over her shoulder. Murder is fun!

You know who agrees that murder is fun?? JEFFY DOES!! When Quinn splits through the library doors, he’s in hot pursuit. Down the stairs, into the atrium, where he’s pretty sure Quinn is headed for the cafeteria, a designated safe space. If he circled around the couches and chairs and people splayed out on the ground with their books everywhere, he could make it to the door, but not before her.

If he turned this into a straight line, however. Well. Jeffy used to run track, and he’s much taller than he was back then, he can totally clear a couple living hurdles if he needs to! THIS IS FUN! Jesus fucking Christ, typical Azurcrest athletes He takes a full second to plot out a plausible path that could result in the least injuries to himself or inconveniences to others, and then makes a break for it. The first thing he does is accidentally kick Chloe’s sketchbook, which results in a shouted, “SORRY!” over his shoulder as he tries to keep Quinn within range.

Quinn doesn't take the time to plot her course like Jeffy does; instead it's a matter of running like hell or death. Her own route takes her over a coffee table, between two practising cheerleaders, over the back of a couch, and over another small table—which catches her leg and sends her tumbling in a pathetic somersault three feet from the cafeteria doors.

Sitting up from her crumpled heap, Quinn blinks. What the fuck happened? She–what? oh. Shit. She's dazed. She's definitely about to die. (Figuratively.)

Oh Quinn, not plotting out your path ahead of time is exactly how people like you die. In most circumstances. When they’re not being chased by the actual living spirit of sportsmanship. Jeffy launches himself over the heads of three freshmen copying each other’s homework, swings around a support beam, and slides much more gracefully to a halt just a few feet away from the cafeteria doors. Where Quinn, dazed and confused and sitting on the ground just outside the safe zone, is just the easiest of picking.

And then he reaches down and offers her a hand up.

Because it’s not fair or fun to stab someone when they can’t defend themselves. Jeffy, you can't win with killer instincts that underdeveloped.

Fuck it. She had a good run.

Quinn takes the offered hand and lets Jeffy pull her up, bending her knees and elbows to check for injuries. She's not hurt but she winces anyway. You know, just in case.

"Thanks, Jeffy. You're one of the good ones."

She's resigned herself to her fate...

... or has she?

Aw, thanks Quinn, Jeffy is one of the good ones, isn't he? Once Quinn is on her feet and properly able to defend herself, he smiles, there's no escape now. "Any last words?" He reaches in his pocket, and...

.......Oh.

Whoops.

It's empty.

He looks back and sees his Quinn knife several feet away, right in front of the cheating freshmen. Quinn probably has a second to think through these last words.

Wait... seriously? Quinn was prepared to take her death like a champ, but Jeffy dropped his goddamn knife? She quickly touches her left hand to the opposite forearm to confirm that her knife is still accounted for (and it is, thank God). She needs to act fast because she still has a motherfucking chance at this game.

Her last words aren't the stuff epics are made of. Her last words are, in fact, one word: a pathetic "Byeeeeeeee~" called out to Jeffy at half-volume as he turns around to look at the knife on the ground, and she backs up over those final couple feet, crossing the cafeteria's threshold.

Her hair's a mess, her things are in the library (thankfully except for her journal, which is stowed uncomfortably in her sweater's pocket), and she risked being banned from the library... but she's alive. Hell yes, she's alive.
