HUNGER GAMES: DAY 1

In the morning, a number of students wake up unusually early to run down to their lockers. There, they find a single plastic butterknife for each of them with a name printed on the blade. It’s you or them. Life or death. Embarrassment or a small fortune.

It’s time for murder games, naughty children.

The staff can tell something is happening, but it's met with mostly exasperation (and a few cases of amusement). All the same, the students know that exposing the game is a quick way to get it banned. It creates an air of tension and secrecy that's only guaranteed to increase over the week. This is only the first day, so keep your cool. Cold hard cash is on the line.

THE RULES

You may not ‘kill’ someone while they’re naked. (If any "bits" are exposed.)
You may not ‘kill’ someone in their cabin, the bathroom, the showers, during a Grotto party, the infirmary, or in the cafeteria.
You may not ‘kill’ someone in front of a teacher. This is largely so that staff doesn’t catch onto this definitely reasonable and well-organized game created by sensible children.
If you actually hurt the other person in your murder attempt, you’re out of the game. The person who was injured takes your knife, and it’ll be as though they killed you.
Feel free to play out scenes of the kills, or attempted kills, on this post.
You and the other player decide the details of how the kill happened! The only information we will provide is the approximate time of the kill and who was killed.
Originally, player activity during the game was going to play a role in success, but the system ended up too complicated. However, when we get down to the final ~10 survivors on Friday, activity and strategy will count a great deal when it comes to who wins.
If there is an IC dispute over a kill, for instance, if Clarence got too violent and it was determined that he'd broken the rule, then your character(s) will need to go to Diego Morales and Clementine Decourt to have it settled. However, none of the kills officially listed on the Hunger Games kill posts will be changed. They are set in stone. Disputes are merely for roleplaying purposes. Keep this in mind while playing out your scenes!

First blood is drawn when Casey offs Sebastien first thing in the morning.

Morning: Not long after that, Avery dispatches Cameron, and Sybilla gets the better of Chloe.

Mid-day: Closer to lunch, Ulysses enacts revenge on Clementine. Then in the afternoon, Zoey falls to Susana, and Sy catches up with Isabelle.

Evening: As dinner approaches, Quinn makes short work of Mackenzie. Mere moments later, Roxie ends Riley.

The last kill of the day goes to Leo, who takes down Todd.

It takes Dimi more than half the day to figure out who Hazel Keating even is. He's not going to just ask anyone, because how obvious would that be? Very, that's how.

So he employs some detective work. It's kind of fun - pretending to be a private investigator. Loitering in the atrium between classes to eavesdrop. Wandering around 'looking for a good seat' during mealtimes to see what he overhears. Eventually, he discovers that Hazel is that cute little blonde girl his cabinmates are co-parenting (or whatever it is they're doing, competing for her love?)

Oh. Well. Hmm. Would you look at her? This is going to be hard. Maybe tomorrow.

Mina sighs when she gets her Hunger Games knife, and uses it as a bookmark in the Transfiguration tome she borrowed from the library, for her senior project. Laurel Templeton deserves to survive into the second day.

But if anyone comes for her, she's ready. Back to the wall at all times. Always have an exit plan. Don't let anyone within arm's reach, even if you love them. Especially if you love them.

Penny really did not do a very good job of learning anyone's names in this school she did not have direct contact with. He wasn't in Quidditch, Gaming, Duelling, and he certainly wasn't in her classes. She didn't think he was a senior, either. So, in lieu of all that and not wanting to make her target obvious or known, she did her own digging.

And it is definitely going to take longer than one day. Much sighing.

Xavier’s eyes go wide when he sees the name of his target. He stands at his locker grinning and confident that he has this one in the bag. Ursula would never suspect that dumb, loud Xavier Lewis is her angel of (not actual) death, right? Still, she’s a clever one. Gotta play this smart. No pratfalls and asking for help standing – she wouldn’t go for that.

Mind bubbling with ideas, Zav stows the knife and loads up his bag with what he’ll need for the day. He doesn’t even need to get Ursula today. Maybe he can hit her up. Lull her into a false sense of security. He's been trying to decide if making sushi out of fruit by the foot and rice crispy treats would be disgusting or amazing, and she's always good to bounce ideas off of.

As for his own hide, Xavier is moving with extreme caution. It’s the most awake he’s seemed all year, maybe. He doesn’t even bump into any doorways or desk corners all day and he’s much more reserved about chatting with people who happen by.

	Fern isn't in a hurry to take her target out. Let the other players do the heavy lifting and narrow the playing field. Work smarter, not harder. For her part, she does her best to stick to areas where she can't be killed. She trusts no one. She keeps her eyes on all exits and always has a strategy for defense. Cameron wasn't very pleased to have gotten Robin. He told the Ebonboys Robin would be hard to kill! He could easily survive in the forest until the game was over. So, Cameron's plan was to get to him before he figured out who had his knife.

He bribed Robin's younger brother, Quentin. He had been willing to give him up to a hundred dollars, but Quentin agreed to do it for his starting offer of five dollars and the rest of his Kit Kat bar. He had given him all the information he needed - and like, way more. He definitely wanted his brother to lose.

As Cameron creeps down the trail, he spies Robin just ahead. He has to get him before he sees him.

Robin Youngblood trusts no one. Like, everyone knows that. He doesn’t trust his little brother (for good fucking reason, apparently), he doesn’t trust his best friends (who are in these damn games with him and would sure as fuck use their friendship to fuck him over, because he would do the exact same thing to them), he sure as fuck doesn’t trust Mr. Giant Dude creeping his way (does Carney really think he’s being sneaky? He ain’t even got a stealth theme song, what the fuck is he doing?).

He spots his, like, eight foot tall stalker on his way to breakfast, because Robin is only selectively a dumbass and knows when to check his six. Cam also isn’t that hard to spot. But he figures he’ll let him get a little closer, maybe make sure he isn’t trying to sneak up on anyone else (there isn’t anyone else to sneak up on, Robin is walking to breakfast alone because he doesn’t trust his best friends). As if to play up his apparent cluelessness, he starts to whistle, hands in his pockets, not a care in this whole wide world.

	Robin is whistling, and he has his hands in his pockets. That's awful self defense strategy, right? He definitely doesn't realize anything is a foot. Cameron slowly starts to close the distance between them, trying to make it look like a natural consequence of his stupidly long legs that he has a longer stride than Robin. Nothing to see here.... Oh, Cameron, what are you doing? If you can’t see the other person’s hands, they probably have a weapon. In fact, always assume other people are armed is a basic tenant of survival. Not just for the apocalypse, but for this crazy high school world that they live in, this shit is dangerous, someone’s gonna get eaten one of these days.

“Sup dude,” Robin greets Cam without even turning around, though he’s still got his eye on him from the side. “You doin’ a little early AM—” His wand comes out of his pocket and he very casually (like he’s not even in a hurry) shoots a sticking spell at Cam’s feet before putting the wand back away. “—sneakin’ around?”

Look, Cameron is from Olympus, not the mean streets of wherever poor people live. Hands in pockets just mean someone's being casual!

"Hey, man, I'm just--" Cameron starts, but then his feet stick to the ground, and Cam almost topples over. He ends up bending in half, with his palms on the ground. Cheer has taught him to be flexible!

"Aw, dang it, man!" he says, straightening up. "I'm just tryna get breakfast, you just gonna leave me here?"

Robin shrugs, puts his hands back in his pockets, and resumes his whistling. "You got yourself a wand, don't you?" And if he didn't, well, he shouldn't be wandering around without his wand, but someone would come along eventually. Probably. It wasn't like when he and Tess got stuck on the trails before curfew had even been lifted and ended up eating all his apples in order to survive.

It probably wasn't like that.
