HUNGER GAMES: DAY 1

In the morning, a number of students wake up unusually early to run down to their lockers. There, they find a single plastic butterknife for each of them with a name printed on the blade. It’s you or them. Life or death. Embarrassment or a small fortune.

It’s time for murder games, naughty children.

The staff can tell something is happening, but it's met with mostly exasperation (and a few cases of amusement). All the same, the students know that exposing the game is a quick way to get it banned. It creates an air of tension and secrecy that's only guaranteed to increase over the week. This is only the first day, so keep your cool. Cold hard cash is on the line.

THE RULES

You may not ‘kill’ someone while they’re naked. (If any "bits" are exposed.)
You may not ‘kill’ someone in their cabin, the bathroom, the showers, during a Grotto party, the infirmary, or in the cafeteria.
You may not ‘kill’ someone in front of a teacher. This is largely so that staff doesn’t catch onto this definitely reasonable and well-organized game created by sensible children.
If you actually hurt the other person in your murder attempt, you’re out of the game. The person who was injured takes your knife, and it’ll be as though they killed you.
Feel free to play out scenes of the kills, or attempted kills, on this post.
You and the other player decide the details of how the kill happened! The only information we will provide is the approximate time of the kill and who was killed.
Originally, player activity during the game was going to play a role in success, but the system ended up too complicated. However, when we get down to the final ~10 survivors on Friday, activity and strategy will count a great deal when it comes to who wins.
If there is an IC dispute over a kill, for instance, if Clarence got too violent and it was determined that he'd broken the rule, then your character(s) will need to go to Diego Morales and Clementine Decourt to have it settled. However, none of the kills officially listed on the Hunger Games kill posts will be changed. They are set in stone. Disputes are merely for roleplaying purposes. Keep this in mind while playing out your scenes!

First blood is drawn when Casey offs Sebastien first thing in the morning.

Morning: Not long after that, Avery dispatches Cameron, and Sybilla gets the better of Chloe.

Mid-day: Closer to lunch, Ulysses enacts revenge on Clementine. Then in the afternoon, Zoey falls to Susana, and Sy catches up with Isabelle.

Evening: As dinner approaches, Quinn makes short work of Mackenzie. Mere moments later, Roxie ends Riley.

The last kill of the day goes to Leo, who takes down Todd.

Like, who the fuck is Isabelle?

Sy thinks he recognizes the name from the journals, but the journals don't show people's faces. Because he's a busy guy with too much to do (1. practicing Quidditch; 2. playing Quidditch; 3. obsessing over Quidditch), there's a fuckton of people in this school whom he barely ever speaks to. He knows almost all the names of people in class. He knows most of the seniors, on account of needing to know who not to fuck with. That still leaves way too many names unaccounted for.

His strategy to find out people's names is to roam the hallways and then throw his Quaffle at anyone he doesn't recognize. So far, this strategy has already lost him 15 points from Coppertale, so he's strategically doing it where none of these fuckin' snitches can see him. (Except what if "Isabelle" is a baby prefect? Shit.)

It's almost 2:30 when Sy spots a skinny redhead he's never spoken to before. He spins the red ball in his hands and chucks it so it slams into the wall beside her head. "Oh shit," Sy says loudly as he rushes up to the girl, sort of laughing and sort of trying to look embarrassed. "Sorry, I fucked up that pass. You alright?"

Isabelle was having fun with this! She liked Milo though, so it was hard to figure out a way to dupe him in order to fake-murder him without seeming super obvious. She was stalking her target almost all day, aside from in between classes. She was on her way to Aesthetic Magic - early, really, but she liked to get there in order to set up her space and get things ready before everyone else came in and watched her act like a weirdo, organizing her supplies.

She nearly screamed when a ball whooshed past her and hits the wall RIGHT next to her head. The scream turns more into a little yelp and she jumps backwards, whipping around quickly to see a sexy junior coppertale God walking her way and then she realizes its SY FREAKING STOKER and she is TERRIFIED. He has a reputation, you know, and his sister is just as terrifying and she looks like she's about to keel over when he apologizes and asks if she's alright, looking embarrassed himself.

"O - oh. Yeah I'm okay. I mean I might have a heart attack but you know, aside from that, totally okay yeah." Heavy breathing.

Quinn's had one eye out for her victim all day and her other out for whoever's going to stab her in the back. She reasons it's probably Chris; it's always Chris.

She worked out her cover story within an hour of Diego's notification: Mackenzie Prince. And now, lining up a shot in Archery Club, she catches the Azurcrest's ruby hair out of the corner of her eye. She fucks up the shot (whatever, she has a game to win) and hurriedly explains that she'll be right back before dashing out of the shooting range after the jays' cheer captain.

"Prince!" Is that just the right amount of desperation? Nearing Kenzie, Quinn hopes so. "Wait, I need your advice." She stops just shy of stabbing range to show truce, lifting her empty palms to the air. Never mind that her plastic knife's been up her sleeve since she changed out of her uniform. "Please?"

Kenzie's on guard because that's what you do this time of year. Luckily for Quinn, if there's anything off about her performance... the nuance is lost on Kenzie. She doesn't know Quinn terribly well, and most of their interactions revolve around some variation of Watch It Prince. But Kenzie likes her.

She likes most people.

So she flips her hair over her shoulder and gives Quinn a look that's distinctly shy of icy. "Now, I know I've been behaving lately, so whatever it is you need from me must be an emergency."

"Yes, on both accounts." Technically true. Quinn crosses her arms and looks down to her shoes before speaking again, hopefully seeming just the slightest bit uncomfortable. "Ty's birthday is next week and I'm stumped, so I thought I'd ask one of his fellow captains for help. Do cheerleaders use, like... special equipment or anything?" She tops this off with a sheepish scratch of her head, which also just so happens to free up her knife-arm.

Murder wasn't actually Avery's forte or anything, but she had read all the Hunger Games books and was incredibly excited for this whole thing. Not particularly competitive but certainly one to get into the spirit of things, Avery had planned and plotted different strategies to kill her target until she learned who it was. Cameron Carney. She wasn't expecting to be able to sneak up on him very well.

However, Avery and Cam had shared that kiss at his New Year's party and she was pretty sure she had danced with him at the Masquerade Ball. Walking up and saying hello wasn't all that unheard of, even though they definitely didn't have any classes together on Monday. She did a little sneaking when she got out of Hermeticism, checking the next classes until she finally saw him walking away from Herbology and, presumably, to him Cabin. She caught him on the trails.

"Hey, Cam. What's up?"

	Cameron already tried and failed to kill his target. Robin is hard to kill! He told the other Ebonhide boys that. Robin basically lives in the woods, getting up to whatever Bear Grylls stuff his family does, there's no way he's going to get him, so he's already kinda checked out of the game. 	Robin is hard to kill, and when you're focused on your very difficult to kill target, you become an easier target. She would learn that lesson later. It takes Cameron a moment to notice what even happened, looking from Avery to her plastic knife. "Oh," he says, "OH!"

He hold his heart (she didn't even stab him there, but that's where the Wound is okay). "OH, SWEET BABY JESUS! WHY, WHY, WHYYYY!" he shouts, falling to his knees. "When beggars die, there are no comets seen! But the heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes!" Then, he falls over dead.

After a couple of seconds, he sits up again. "Well, guess I'm dead." He pulls his knife out of his pocket and hands it to her. "Have fun with that one."

Oh my god this was so much better than she had anticipated. She watched as Cameron dramatically clutched his heart, made a speech, and fell to the ground.

"OH FORGIVE ME, IT HAD TO BE DONE, I'M SO SORRY!" Very old school, Scarlett O'Harra accent going on and all.

When he sits up and hands her his target, she let out a very audible groan and sank down beside him. "Just kidding I'm dead too. Or wait no, no we can pretend I didn't kill you until you kill him." She bargained, because there was no way in hell she'd be able to take down Robin.

Leo had been trying to corner Todd Skynner since this morning, but he was a sophomore and there wasn't very much overlap. Leo had also been trying to aggressively pretend he didn't care about murder games and was in fact kind of behind on his senior project. It was almost half true.

He couldn't believe his good luck, then, when he is in the library and he just happens to hear some freshmen talking about the cool journals they'd just seen for sale. Wasn't...? Leo glances around, and saw the very sophomore he'd been looking for all day. He smiles to himself for just a second, plays it cool. Doesn't hurry up to finish his homework. But he makes sure to get up, as if to leave, in plenty of time to catch Todd at his table. He stands a respectful distance from him, for all intents and purposes just glancing over the items for sale, and taps one. "How much?" He makes sure to sound just as suspicious and business like as he normally would and then false-corrects so as to not sound unfriendly. "My sister thinks the journals are cool. Figure it'd be a good Gooseberry souvenir."

His sister is 30. But no one knows that, really.

Look, Ulysses isn't evil. He's not that bad a kid, at the end of the day, and he certainly doesn't sit around relishing thoughts of murder, fictional or otherwise. But this was an exception. When he saw whose name he'd pulled in the Games... well, to be perfectly frank, he felt blessed. Suck it, Tiny. This is for his baby teeth.

Unfortunately, the assassination was shaping up to be a little harder than he thought. Normally, he had no trouble getting close to Clem, if just to yell and/or slapfight — but today was proving to be the exception. In fact, it wasn't until lunch time that he even saw her at all. Mysterious.

After her first class following breakfast, Sylla is both on edge and excited about taking her time in meandering the halls before making her way to the library. She knows she is over-exposing herself, but the thrill of being on the lookout for herself is just as fun as being watchful for her own target. Her pace is slow and steady, holding her bookbag with one arm, while the other has her plastic knife tucked securely into her sleeve - where she keeps her wand usually in case she has to throw a hex at a moment's notice.
