Entry tags:! log, matteo diaz, robin youngblood

who: Robin Youngblood & Teo Diaz
what: This weird kid is hanging around Robin at the dance.
where: On the balcony at the masquerade.
when: Whenever that dance was. A million years ago.
warnings: Robin will never not swear.

Robin was kind of digging the fuck out of this dance. He usually found himself going to dances and parties because there wasn’t a whole hell of a lot else to do on a Friday night at boarding school, and he usually found some way to enjoy himself, but honestly, five hours was a long ass time to be putting up with all your classmates. And it was a long ass time for them to be putting up with him.

But when no one really knew who you were, and you didn’t really know who anyone else was, it made it easier to not get annoyed as fuck with people. Like, no one could actually say the plague doctor who just sang Dragula was hogging the mic, because you couldn’t definitely prove that he was also the plague doctor that just sang Survivor and Ice, Ice Baby, which means Robin didn’t have to yell “DON’T TREAD ON ME” when some young Event Committee punk tried to tell him he wasn’t giving anyone else a chance, which means there were probably a lot more happy people at this dance than there usually was. Weird how that works out.

Heading out to the balcony, wisps of smoke curling up from his mask and disappearing into the night sky, Robin glanced around to see if anyone might notice if he disappeared into a corner and also started smoking. Like regular cigarette smoke, not badass special effects smoke.

Seemed okay.

Time to slip into a perfectly hidden corner and not be noticed by anyone at all.

Teo noticed. He was easy to miss, mostly because he stood really still, but he also stood like even he didn’t notice he was standing there. It was like the key to flying in a Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, where you just throw yourself at the ground and then simply miss. That was how Teo noticed things, really.

Teo followed Robin out onto the balcony, and then greeted Robin as if he knew exactly who Robin was. He didn’t. He couldn’t identify most of the people here - but Robin had a familiar aura. Teo felt deeply that he recognized Robin based entirely on the feel of Robin. “Friend,” he said much too loudly toward somebody who was very clearly attempting to slip away.

Robin paused, because who the fuck even was this guy(?), where the fuck did he come from, and did he just call him friend? None of Robin's friends called him friend. None of his friends probably even thought of him as a friend. He was a terrible friend.

“That probably ain't exactly right,” Robin replied with his eyebrows up, though you couldn't exactly see that. You couldn't exactly see anything under his mask. He was even going to have to kind of take it off to smoke, not that he could in front of this person that was definitely not his friend. What if this was some shithead prefect? Huh? What then?

“You’re too humble,” Teo said, as if he knew exactly who he was talking to and knew exactly how humble Robin could be. “You’re trying to slip away right? It’s fine, I’ll walk with you. I’ll watch your back,” Teo continued, much more friendly than any of Robin’s actual friends actually are. He wasn’t even trying to slip away, he was just trying to make conversation. His tone had a calm quality to it, completely devoid of rush or concern.

Robin looked to the left and right of him, like that was going to explain what the fuck was going on and found no explanations. “Motherfucker, I ain’t never been humble,” he said, keeping a very close eye on this… blob of a person. Probably a dude. “And I ain’t never needed no one to watch my back neither.”

It was probably really easy to tell this was Robin.

Like, who the fuck else actually talks like that.

“And what the fuck makes you think I wanna slip away, maybe I just fucking walk like that.”

Yeah, this was definitely Robin. Teo had met him once. When they were looking for Robin's snake. He'd been almost certain this was Robin from the beginning - his aura felt right, familiar. "Do you walk like that?" Teo asked, reasonably calm. "A sort of hunched over tip toe kind of walk? Because that'd be cool. Unique. Unlike any walk I have ever seen before. Could you teach it to me?" Somehow, despite the mask, and the charm, Teo peered at Robin innocently, as if he truly suspected this was entirely how Robin had always walked and he would desire nothing more than to be taught this exact walk.

Ah fuck it, Robin didn't care that much about getting in trouble for smoking, even if this was the world's weirdest prefect and not just the world's weirdest, like, person. And that was Robin thinking that. Robin, the apparently second weirdest, like, person.

"If I walk like that I fucking walk like that," he said with a shrug, but when he started walking again it was completely different, so clearly he didn't always walk like that. He walked backwards, keeping an eye on the super weird kid as he dug his cigarettes out of one of the pockets hidden in his outfit. "That shit's just bred into you, can't teach it, wouldn't teach it if I could neither." Was this kid really just going to, like, keep following him?

Teo followed him. It felt like the natural thing to do. He had no desire to actually come onto the balcony and smoke - he wasn't a smoker, but it felt natural to follow Robin in this endeavor. He noted that Robin walked completely different, but also unusually. This was great. This kid was unusual, unique. Teo loved him.

"Of course not," Teo said understandingly. "It is unique wholly to yourself, and that should be treasured, not necessarily shared. Getting to witness it is enough for me." Teo was smiling. He wasn't sure if smiling actually translated well with the charm working, but he was smiling regardless.

This was not how Robin communicated with people. This was weird, why was this so weird, what the fuck was this dude doing like agreeing with him and shit. "Dude, you gotta expect more outta your interactions and shit." Backing himself kind of close to a corner, but not literally into a corner because who the fuck was this guy and do you think Robin would ever not give himself an escape route?

Okay, sometimes, yeah, but not intentionally. Popping a cigarette out of his pack, Robin made a point of not offering one to his weird hanger on and just kind of popped his mask up above his mouth. "Like this shit, right here. Because you know I ain't gonna offer you a fucking smoke right?"
