Entry tags:! log, ennis harper, matteo diaz

Who: Teo Diaz and Ennis Harper
What: They're literally just star gazing, fam
Where: Behind Ribbonfin but not like dangerously dangerously far
When: At some point during the blackout. We're gonna say, March 1st.
Warnings: It's probably gonna be straight PG.

Teo and Ennis were going to star gaze. They’d brought out blankets and pillows and cleared a little bit of the ground out behind Ribbonfin to pile their blankets onto. Teo nestled down into that insanely comfortable mound of blankets beside Ennis. Once settled, he dragged an additional blanket over the both of them, so that they wouldn’t get cold.

Teo had a way about him that suggested that nothing was too intimate for him, while at the same time he never really considered anything intimate. There were no ulterior motives for him. When he asked to star gaze, that was clearly what he planned to do. However, he had also asked Ennis if he wanted to get high - because that was also clearly what he planned to do. “It looks like a cowboy hat,” Teo observed, lifting his finger to identify the cluster of stars that he believed were arranged specifically to look like a cowboy hat for Ennis.

Ennis already had his first taste of The Reefer at the Ribbonfin contraband party and it was enough to get him hooked. Or at least curious enough to try again. His first attempt was mostly unsuccessful and left him looking uncool in front of cute Housemates; it started with a coughing fit and left him smacking his lips and rolling his tongue around to try to do away with his cotton mouth.

It didn't really work.

But tonight, he came prepared. In addition to the piles and piles of cozy blankets, he brought along a picnic basket with treats he had made in rudiments earlier that day and, more importantly, something for them to drink. Fool him once!! He sat it on the ground above their pillows and within ease of reach before he settled into the blanket pile with Teo, wriggling into place and wriggling just a bit more until he found optimal comfort shoulder-to-shoulder with his best friend. To Ennis, many, many things were intimate to him. This was intimate. But with Teo, he never minded. With Teo, there was never the lingering sense of anxiety and uncertainty born of unspoken expectation. There were no ulterior motives for him.

Ennis followed Teo's gaze, leaning his head to the side to try to follow the invisible path that connected to the end of Teo's pointed finger. He squinted and saw nothing. He squinted harder, brows furrowing. He supposed he saw something... vaguely cowboy hat shaped? But if Teo saw it, it must be there. Teo was so good at this!! Ennis was much better with clouds, though.

"Do you think anyone is on one of those planets surrounding one of those stars, looking up at the night sky, and pointing toward our sun?" Ennis asks, soft voice full of childlike wonder. They hadn't even smoked anything yet.

“Absolutely,” Teo said with calm conviction. “I think there are many populated planets, and universes, beyond our own. So many things are universal to existence that nothing we truly do will ever be unique to us or our current situation. What we do is likely being mirrored all across the galaxy, by millions of our creatures we will never get to meet in our lifetime. I’m positive someone on one of those planets is currently identifying the same cowboy hat in the stars that we are. And I think that’s beautiful.”

Woah. Deep.

Ennis's eyes widened as he focused in on one of the stars, imagining a version of Teo and himself, laying out beneath the stars, pointing up at the sky with one of their spindly fingers. Their skin was orange and they had five eyes to see the shapes even better.

With a sudden realization, he turned his head to look face-to-face with Teo, brows furrowing. "Do you they know what cowboys are? Or do you think it looks like a space ship to them?"

I lost this whole tag. Coming up with teo's dialogue a second time is so hard dude

Now it was Teo's turn to look toward Ennis with wide eyes. That was such a good question.

"Maybe they do," he proposed. "But maybe they don't call it that. Maybe they have neither cows or boys. Maybe they don't have vowels either. But out of the infinite possibilities, we come to English and using outdated words that need not hold any meaning now in days. Cowboys don't actually exist anymore but their image," he tapped his finger toward the constellation, "is eternal. And universal. It means the same in Spanish or Swedish or Latin. Maybe it's like on those planets too. Maybe they have a hat immortalized by one time period, meant to block out the sun and protect them from the dirt. Or - maybe they don't have hats at all. Maybe they benefit from the sun more than we do. Like Superman. Perhaps it gives them strength. Instead of cancer."
