MOVIE NIGHT

Susana Velasquez arranges for a movie night party in the lodge, because they just had something very special mailed to them: an R-rated movie. Susana pops Eyes Wide Shut into the DVD player, and the group settles in for a fun night. All’s going well until Ms. Vector walks in at the worst moment, just as the movie features a gratuitous scene with lots of full frontal nudity.

Someone shouts “RUN!” and students scatter to evade getting in trouble. Cole Moss and Calvin Evercreech end up hiding in a closet together.

The one casualty is the Eyes Wide Shut disc, which was not a questionable sequel, and therefore was mysteriously broken in half by the DVD player.

WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN

Despite the sophomores being adorably cliquish, this event is open to everyone.

The lodge is sparsely populated by staff this Friday evening, as the teachers are having a staff meeting.

A little over halfway through the movie, just as a particularly inappropriate scene comes on, Ms. Vector walks in on the viewing party.

Do you run, or do you stay and get lectured? There are no consequences for either decision as long as you're respectful to Coppertale's Head of House.

» watching the movie: Shh, it's starting!

» elsewhere in the lodge: Since there are so few teachers around, is there anything else you rascals are up to? Classrooms and club rooms are all still locked, though.

» run!!!: ... Or don't. Ms. Vector is certainly scandalized to have walked in on such a racy scene, but the most the caught students will get is a lecture on propriety.

This movie...opens with a nude shot of Nicole Kidman. Okay. Wow. That gets Gavin's attention right from the start and he utters a surprised little laugh despite himself. As the movie progresses, he cycles between amazed and dumbfounded shock and boredom. Because some of the scenes between the creepy cult or whatever and the graphic masked sex parties and the bizarre marital spats are actually sort of slow. Surreal and strangely matter-of-fact about being surreal. He really has no idea what he's watching. He occasionally looks over at Cash (seated beside him) or around Cash to Garrett just so he can look stunned at someone or mouth 'oh my god'.

Garrett's incredibly thankful that Cash is seated between him and Gavin because there's something mortifying to him about sitting next to his brother during that much nudity. Especially female nudity. Oh god there's so much sex. And boobs. And butts. Much like his brother he finds himself a little bored and a lot disoriented in between all the bits of nakedity, but otherwise he just looks pretty disgruntled and actually rather embarrassed. He makes eye contact with Gavin at a few points during the film because he can feel his brother's eyes on him, but he looks decidedly uncomfortable about it. DON'T LOOK AT ME GAVIN.

Okay, as much as Micah enjoys flirting with attractive classmates, he has one true love and only one true love, and that's the art of film. He makes sure to ditch his popcorn bags before Ana hits Play on the DVD, and wiggles onto the couch to claim one of the good seats beside Hazel.

Is this movie good? Is it bad? Does Micah care? He watches, utterly rapt, for the entire time. He is watching a master at a work. A master who apparently was obsessed with naked breasts. Are breasts the Illuminati code?

Not really one to be embarrassed, Hazel mostly finds the nudity in this movie funny, especially because she feels like it's just so...unnecessary in a lot of scenes. Why does this movie open with Nicole Kidman's butt??? Guys really are all about naked ladies, jeeze. She giggles a bit on occasion and she doesn't seem to get a lot of the movie (her attention span is not fantastic and she is not a movie buff, sorry Micah), but she does at least react to the relatively graphic sexual acts with surprise. She didn't think this was legal in movies! You learn new things every day.

Fern has found a seat next to Hazel, slouched down low, popping chocolate covered raisins into her mouth. She looks nonchalant and unsurprising though, to be honest, this is... not what she was expecting. She's snuck into Django Unchained, Looper, Dredd. This was... a different kind of R-rated. And she's not sure she really gets it. It's not even a good movie to heckle.

Ana is okay with a little bit of sex. She even finds it a bit intriguing at first. The longer it goes on and the more it shows, however, well. Anyone can tell by her expression she's shocked. It's not something she has to look away from or anything, but it's a lot. What's even worse is that her brother was watching this for some reason. Gross.

Still, her attention remains, though she glances around to see if anyone else is as caught off guard as she is. Is this why you weren't supposed to watch before 17? Was this what sex was like? WAS ANYONE ELSE SLIGHTLY STUNNED? Was a lynch mob about to turn on her???

Cole isn't as shocked by Eyes Wide Shut as some of his peers are because he's an artist that's fairly familiar with the human body (he's drawn all of it) and he isn't particularly shy. At all. He doesn't always get the film and he does murmur a few confused questions to those on either side of him throughout, but he isn't offended or shocked or regretting his decision to join his friends. Instead, he spends most of the movie admiring the designs and the architecture and the way that the film makes use of light or angles or color. On the technical front, it really is quite stunning. He intends to say as much to Micah later...though, he obviously won't get the chance tonight.

	Oh my. Pippa, who has previously never seen anything racier than a Disney movie, is rooted uncomfortably to the couch. She doesn't particularly want to watch this, but it would be far more embarrassing if she got up and left, so she stares down at the snacks in her lap and quietly hopes the DVD player will malfunction soon.
