MOVIE NIGHT

Susana Velasquez arranges for a movie night party in the lodge, because they just had something very special mailed to them: an R-rated movie. Susana pops Eyes Wide Shut into the DVD player, and the group settles in for a fun night. All’s going well until Ms. Vector walks in at the worst moment, just as the movie features a gratuitous scene with lots of full frontal nudity.

Someone shouts “RUN!” and students scatter to evade getting in trouble. Cole Moss and Calvin Evercreech end up hiding in a closet together.

The one casualty is the Eyes Wide Shut disc, which was not a questionable sequel, and therefore was mysteriously broken in half by the DVD player.

WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN

Despite the sophomores being adorably cliquish, this event is open to everyone.

The lodge is sparsely populated by staff this Friday evening, as the teachers are having a staff meeting.

A little over halfway through the movie, just as a particularly inappropriate scene comes on, Ms. Vector walks in on the viewing party.

Do you run, or do you stay and get lectured? There are no consequences for either decision as long as you're respectful to Coppertale's Head of House.

» Before the movie: Meet up with your friends, share snacks, claim the best seats.

» watching the movie: Shh, it's starting!

» elsewhere in the lodge: Since there are so few teachers around, is there anything else you rascals are up to? Classrooms and club rooms are all still locked, though.

» run!!!: ... Or don't. Ms. Vector is certainly scandalized to have walked in on such a racy scene, but the most the caught students will get is a lecture on propriety.

Gavin and Garrett like movie night as a rule, but Gavin is particularly pleased this time around because the movie is one that they're definitely not supposed to have and because his prefect brother agreed to come along with no muss and no fuss. So this will be fun. He arrives with Garrett and is obviously in a good mood, joking and chatting up anyone that gets close enough to be drawn into the twins' orbit. He's also keeping an eye open for Cash, so he can try to make him sit between them.

Garrett indeed had put up no fight at all - he figures this is pretty much harmless, and if they get caught and get in a some trouble it should be fairly minor. Honestly, he's just happy any time he can agree to something close to shenanigans with Gavin; despite himself he misses their more carefree Freshman year. He doesn't dwell on it though and arrives happy, chatty, and excited to watch their weird contraband movie. Like his brother, he's also on the lookout for Cash; he's not escaping them!

	Cash actually needed way less encouragement than the rest of the sophomores seemed to think. Look, YES, he's the worst, but he's also a teen boy and he wants to see the racy movie. Sue him. He lets himself be shepherded in with minimal hassle. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Cole isn't particularly excited about the movie (R rating or no R rating), but he is looking forward to spending time with his friends and he shows up early to claim a spot on one of the sofas. He's brought his sketchbook along and sits busily sketching yet more mask designs while the others come into the room and begin talking and joking and milling around. He trusts that his friends will come and find him when they arrive, so he's let his mind wander completely and he doesn't seem to be paying attention to his surroundings at all.

It's been a little odd going about business as usual with Calvin knowing Cole knows how Calvin feels about him. However, nothing has changed, really. Cole isn't acting distant or uncomfortable, and Calvin's been trying his best to be equally relaxed. It's been hit and miss on Calvin's side, but the passing days have been easy enough, even with how often the tiniest thing can give him butterflies.

This is why he barely hesitates at all before taking a seat next to Cole. "Are you going to draw through the whole film?"

It hasn't been Cole's intention to keep Calvin waiting or to make things between them awkward...he's just been trying to do what Calvin said to do. He's been thinking and talking to other people and trying to put a name to his unfamiliar feelings toward his friend. He thinks he knows what he wants to say now and he gets a little more certain each time he's with the other boy...but he hasn't known how to bring the subject up again.

For now, though, that's not what he's focused on. He's focused on his drawings.

When Calvin's voice catches his attention, though, he looks over and offers a reflexive smile. He's always happy to see him and tonight is no exception. But he shakes his head. "Oh! No. I thought...I would notice when it started? Or someone would tell me?"

Micah announces himself with fanfare (i.e. he sings "dun dun DUN-DUN, dun dun DUN-DUN, dun dun DUN-DUN!!!" as he walks into the Atrium), also hauling several paper bags in his arms. He went to Prospero and asked for MOVIE SNACKS, and the house-elves obliged. You want flavours? He's got flavours! Various kinds of cheesy! Caramel! Chili! Chocolate! And extra buttery! He gives a bag out to anyone who wants one, and like, also to people who don't want popcorn? This is a lot of popcorn, guys.

Micah cannot, for the life of him, tell the Ogletree twins apart unless they're wearing their colour-coded uniforms. (And not even then, honestly.) But they're enough nice dudes, and Micah always enjoys the attention of a cute blond, so he's fine with living with uncertainty.

"Thanks." He pushes several bags into Gavirett's arms—they're all clearly marked with a delicious flavour, so Garrin can easily figure out what to distribute if people have a preference. "I'll find you and... your brother later with the chili and caramel, I just wanna make sure everyone gets some before the movie starts."

Grinning and shaking his head, Gavin takes the bags. He's more than willing to give the hero of movie night a hand with his precious cargo. "No problem. You can count on me! You know, within reason." The 'your brother' line, though, prompts visible amusement and he lifts his eyebrows, but he doesn't press the other boy to tell him his brother's name or his name or anything like that. That isn't the fun part. "Sounds like a plan."

"Yes, please. Help me or else I'm going to eat so much popcorn that Jeffy will have to haul me back up the hill over his manly shoulders," Micah says while pelting someone in the back of the room with a random bag of popcorn. He's been getting really good at throwing things. Sports pay off after all!

He shoots Ana a grin. "Which one do you want? Maybe pick a couple, so we can share with Hazel."

	Hazel appears to claim some super freaking extra buttery popcorn just for herself (she'll take any other popcorn you offer her throughout the movie though, guys). He somehow manages to make telling Micah that he should have asked him for help earlier sound kind of bratty. But he also thanks him with awkward sincerity. Ana feels just a little bit of that rebelliousness everyone keeps joking about as she heads to the lodge. An R rated movie isn't like the worst thing in the world, but she still feels just a little bold for organizing it (even if she really isn't)

When she arrives, people have already started to gather, so she sets up the movie to play whenever everyone is ready before claiming a spot on a sofa. (Let's be real, she's probably going to bounce around quite a bit)

	Hazel has zero idea what she's getting herself into, but semi-secret movie screening of something they're not supposed to be watching is obviously up her alley. Sebastien Lacroix watched a lot of movies. Dude, he and his dad did a lot of sitting in front of television screens, so he'd totally watched Kubrick before! Just - not this one. He kind of remembered that it involved Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman? (Y'know, before they got divorced and Tom found Alien Jesus and Nicole roped herself a country singer.) He also remembers that his dad had blatantly laughed in his face when he asked why they were skipping it entirely after they'd mainlined Full Metal Jacket.

So he's kind of intrigued, he's not gonna lie.

And also there's popcorn. Nobody can turn down free popcorn.

	Fern often acts unenthusiastic about these impromptu bonding moments, but sneaking into R-rated movies was a pass time for her at home, and this brings back fond memories, so she's pretty into this idea. She's never seen this movie - it was out of theaters way before her time - but she's down. She comes prepared with a box of chocolate covered raisins to share. (Reply to this) (Parent)
