JUNIOR MONTHLY BONDING ACTIVITY: February

JUNIOR MONTHLY BONDING ACTIVITY

Today, an unusually tired-looking Mr. Thorn is making you all go outside. Again. I guess whatever's on his mind can't keep him down after all. At least the temperature's steadily climbing, and you'll warm up once you get active anyway!

Today, the juniors are playing a variation of Capture the Flag called Hostage. The first order of business is splitting up the juniors into two teams, and once that's done, he asks them to discuss who from the other team they'd like to kidnap. The hostage is handed over, and teenagers scatter across campus to hide their victim.

HOW THIS WORKS

  • The juniors have been split into two teams.

  • Each team discusses and selects one person from the opposite team to be their hostage. They then hide that person in a secret jail, which can be any safe location on campus accessible by (normal, not-hidden) paths. They can't be hidden in locked spaces (aka cabins) but otherwise you have free rein.

  • The teams must then search campus to find their hostage, and tag them to free them. If the rescuer makes it back to their own jail with their rescued hostage, that team wins. If you get caught by the opposite team along the way, the hostage is recaptured, and the rescuer must return to the Ornery Oak and start over.

  • You may not move your jail or hostage. Once the location is discovered, the information can be spread to the rest of the players.

  • Respond here to suggest hostages and hiding places.

    • To suggest a hostage: Reply under your team's header with their name. The first name to get three comments supporting it will be chosen. You may not suggest your own character.

    • To suggest a secret jail: Reply under your team's header with a suggested location. If you receive two comments supporting it, the location will be used. It must be accessible by a path, safe for the hostage, and not in the woods or behind a locked door.

  • Reply to this post with the form below to play! Via RNG we will determine if your character found the hostage, and if they managed to rescue them.

  • Rolls will be done later tonight because mommy's tired, children.

Despite his "very casual" grabs for attention, Wilde didn't actually expect Saira to address him. He makes a little who me? gesture, coming to an decently graceful stop on the path ahead of her. Nice. He hopes he looks handsomely wind-blown, but in reality his hair is just a touch too long and the stereotypical little head toss he has to do to get it out of his eyes feels less than suave. Still, he smiles fairly genuinely.

"Are we finally skateboarding into the sunset? I forgot your Fountainhead."

That head-toss is more exasperating and more amusing, and Saira really doesn't know whether to sneer or laugh, so she does a little of both, shaking her head and huffing out a breath.

"We cannot possibly do it without Ayn Rand accompanying us. Our grand escape will have to wait, I'm afraid." Still, she eyes the board speculatively. Could she make one out of books? No.

It's a continuing trend, not being 100% sure how to read these interactions. It'd be easier to just get back on the board and get out of here. Still, there's that weird duality of wanting to talk to Saira all the time and also pretend she doesn't exist, so Wilde stays in place. He just shrugs.

"That's too bad. I feel like no one would notice if we spent this whole bonding exercise in the library."

That gives Saira pause. She doesn't like breaking rules.

However, she does very much like the library.

"You said 'the sunset,'" she hedges, expression wary. "The Library, presumably, may have its own copy of Rand. I have not looked."

"I'm flexible."

Wilde notices the uncertainty in her expression. "...We can always say we're looking for Sy. It's called being thorough."

Saira has a weakness. That weakness is the Library. It calls to her. And she hates Bonding. Who needs to bond with their peers?

"We could actually look for Stoker," she reasons. 'Perhaps. Briefly."

"He could be there," Wilde agrees. "How will we know unless we look? It's just responsible."

He grins crookedly at her, giving another little shrug. It's super pathetic how nervous and fluttery he suddenly feels. Like, really pathetic. It's just Saira. The fact that she probably already thinks he's kind of an idiot should be comforting. The options for total failure and making himself look stupid in front of her are less than they might seem.

Maybe.

Saira thinks for a moment, then nods once, decisively. "Come on, then."

She turns on her heel and starts walking in the direction of the lodge. She's not going to actually cling to Wilde on the back of his skateboard. Obviously.

i would pay to read a log which ended with saira clinging to wilde on the back of his skateboard
