GOOSEBERRY CHEER TEAM TRYOUTS

Although the cheer teams may not be competing against anyone from Ilvermorny or Hogwarts, the competition within Gooseberry itself is fierce.

Mr. Thorn is holding these tryouts in the warmth and safety of the lodge, so a number of students have rearranged the couches and chairs to form an audience seating area to cheer for the cheerleaders. There's a lot of gymnastic and dance talent in the room today, and only a few minutes to size up the competition before Mr. Thorn gets things underway.

"First off, in alphabetical order, I'm going to call you up to the room to do your prepared audition," he informs the room. "After that, I'm going to teach you all a new routine, and we're going to perform it together." So Mr. Thorn can focus on judging, he has three assistants to teach the new routine: Mackenzie Prince, Cecil Honeychurch, and Olivia Sanchez. The three of them have decided not to try out for the Gooseberry team, but instead graciously agreed to help Mr. Thorn today.

HOW THIS WORKS

There are 12 spots on the Cheer Squad, give or take.

Cheerleaders will be judged on technical skill, athleticism and teamwork.

A captain will also be selected. If you have strong feelings about your character not being chosen as captain, please let us know.

The first half of tryouts are individual auditions. You have up to one minute of the floor, but your routine can be shorter if you don't need the whole minute. You may bring your own music if you wish, but if it's inappropriate (Mr. Thorn looks directly at Casey and Riley as he says this) he's shutting it off.

The second half will involve the three student volunteers teaching a new routine to the group. Mr. Thorn will be walking through the cheerleaders, taking note on how well they follow instruction and overall skill. This will be a relatively simple routine, with some lifts but no complex throws or pyramids.

You may come dressed in your cheer uniform or athletic clothes.

The tryouts are open to the whole student body but preference will be given to current cheerleaders.

» Group Routine: Student volunteers teach a simple cheer and dance routine to the hopeful cheerleaders while Mr. Thorn judges them.

	Xavier is a slacker who doesn't take a lot of classes, so he wanders in to watch at some point, lugging a giant bag of spicy puppy chow he made in Rudiments today. He "WOO!"s with varying levels of enthusiasm, depending on how full his mouth is, at pretty much everyone. Generally, he reserves his best "WOO!"s for Ribbonfins and Diego. Ravi is here, sitting with Xavier (and occasionally indulging in some puppy chow). It's his duty to represent Ribbonfin, which he does with waving an olive-and-copper pennant and enthusiastic applause, particularly for Sun-mi and Tabitha. Although normally reserved, Ravi will stand up for Sun-mi. He'll yell "WHOOO" for Sun-mi (but just once). And he'll reassure her before she goes up that she is wonderful and talented and he'll basically turn into some kind of overly anxious stage dad. Sorry.

And of course, Ravi is also here for Diego. He's not quite so loud or anxious, but he'll switch his pennant for an Azurcrest one whenever Diego goes up, and they spend the rest of the time sitting together and commenting on the routines with Xavier (when Xavier's mouth isn't full).

	Diego is happy to sit with Xavier and Ravi, and is full of glowing compliments for everyone's auditions. He's much less conservative with his "WHOO"s, but Azurcrest, Vee and Ty get special attention. Diego can wolf whistle really loudly. Lung strength! (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Of course Levi is here. He considered trying out for fun, but... With his luck, he'd accidentally make the team due to the lack of tryout numbers and lose his reserve spot. So instead he's dressed in his "cheerleading" getup and cheering for his friends from the audience. This includes metallic silver leggings and a short black crop top with large interchangeable house mascot patches that he can adhere to the front of the shirt. He has all the houses except Ebonhide, because that's The Enemy, but if/when Ebonhide cheerleaders try out, he switches patches to their "alternative" houses he's assigned to them instead.
(Cameron: Azurcrest. Vee: Ribbonfin. Ari: Coppertale. Iliya: Ribbonfin. Yes, everyone gets cheered for. Everyone is his friend. EVEN ARI. If she even tries out.)

Every time Cecil does anything, Levi shakes his pompoms and cheers for him. Anyone who's played hockey should be used to this obnoxious trait.

Cecil isn't very happy with Levi right now. Not after how he behaved on the journals today. He acknowledges his boyfriend with a long, mostly sad look but then focuses on the tryouts instead. He doesn't smile or blush or look over when Levi cheers for him and he saves his attention for the cheerleaders, encouraging them and cheering them on. Levi is welcome to try his luck afterward, but...his honeybee isn't feeling very sweet right now.

Chris came because Ty came to the quidditch try outs, and because he never gets to sit back and watch Ty and Hazel cheer, given the whole quidditch thing. He has an insanely busy schedule because he's a dumbass who is overexerting himself and deciding that sleep is for the weak. But hell yeah, he's got time to watch people try out for cheer.

Chris gets to sit next to Levi in the stands because that means that Levi'll do all the cheering for him and he can just clap like a normal person.

Ummm, of course Quinn's here to watch tryouts??? It's one of her very favourite things to do at Gooseberry! And she's adamant that EVEN CHEERLEADERS DESERVE TO BE CHEERED! If anything, they deserve more cheers than anyone else since it's what they do all year long!

She plunks down on a couch and I assume she's sitting with friends but I have no idea who. She made Tess come, though.

Her journal is on her lap. She's ready.

Each individual tryout gets an enthusiastic whoo!!! from the prefect, doubly loud for Azurcrest cheerleaders and one particular Coppertale. As well as holding up "10!" scorecards for each participant, she writes brief praise in her journal.

	Leo is dance buddies and bonding champions with Ty now, and cheerleaders are a very important part of his Quidditch Solidarity Reputation anyway. Supporting them seems important. So he can be here too, will definitely sit with Rafael and also will ignore Levi and Chris. He probably seems slightly perplexed by this amount of optimism and flipping. She got kicked out of cheering for cheerleader tryouts for obnoxious platonic catcalling at the beginning of the year, but has really changed and grown as a person since then. Micah is HERE TO CHEER for every attractive person who performs a routine, which is basically all of them, and he's got a big sparkly SPARKLY RAINBOW BANNER which he'll charm to show people's names, as they come up. There are extra loud whoops and chants for Azurcrests and his sophomore friends. And he rescued some abandoned prank pink roses from Valentine's day, for the sole purpose of throwing them onto the "stage" when Hazel does her individual tryout.

JEFFY IS HERE!! Cheerleaders are SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE, and he can't wait to see who's going to be CHEERING FOR THEM!! He cheers and claps loudly for literally everyone. He had come here intending to mostly cheer for Azurcrests and sophomores but then he felt bad immediately and didn't know why he would discriminate like that.
