Reid Wainwright ([info]unresponsive) wrote in [info]gooseberry,
Reid Wainwright
It might be a little surprising to some people when he stands with the Seekers and not the Chasers. Either way, Reid has a lot to prove.

He knows how to be a Seeker, but up until this year it had all seemed very simple. Which is just how Reid likes it. Winning was nice, losing was whatever. They got the cup in the end, so it hadn't mattered. He didn't give a shit.

Hadn't given a shit. Now he cares and it's possibly the worst thing in the world. He cares about winning, he cares about Sy, he cares about the team. It keeps him up at night sometimes. His head is a lot less empty now when people catch him staring out into space. But no matter how much he hates it, he can't change it, and so here he is, standing out on the pitch with his broom (a new-old broom from Sy) feeling nervous. He misses being Seeker. He wonders if that's been what's sinking Coppertale. A Chaser who doesn't care enough. A player who's always daydreaming about something besides what's right in front of him. Who would have just been cut from the team if he weren't Sy's friend. Fuck.

But outwardly Reid looks pretty normal, wearing his standard light scowl. Nerves aside, Reid is well suited for Seeker. He's quick and agile, and very independent. He's not good at putting on a show or pulling off stunts, but instead demonstrates a lot of economy in his movements. He makes risky judgements about how fast he can go, how sharp can he take that turn, how close he can skim an obstacle, etc. Reid rides a fine line where he's very hard to hit, but if he ever does miscalculate or someone lands a Bludger on him, he's clearly going to wipe out in the worst way.

When it's not his turn, he watches his teammates and friends intently. He's not much for cheering, but he's very invested, I promise.
