All of this fog almost makes me yearn for the horribly inconvenient buddy system. I keep thinking I see people wandering off the path, but it's just my eyes playing tricks on me. It always ends up being more trees. But sometimes it really looks l

I don't want to go to Duelling tonight, and it has absolutely nothing to do with being A MASSIVE COWARD, GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF FOR MERLIN'S SAKE, EVERCREECH
Duelling's going to go late, and with all the fog, we should walk back in groups. It's just sensible. Visibility will only get worse as the sun goes down.

Fog causes optical illusions. Seeing unusual silhouettes is pretty common. It's kinda like a Brocken spectre.

Damn girl, talk nerdy to me.

I spent most of my break reading about - well - not real ghosts, but you know, like, nomaj hauntings?

Honestly, I don't really get the difference. I was raised primarily nomaj and super Catholic, so we just blame everything on faeries.

Well, I mean. Some things are real and some things aren't, and I think we probably have a better handle on that than the nomajs do.

The concept of real in the context of magic makes my brain hurt.

Why the sudden interest in nomaj hauntings?

Fair enough!

Well I had to get my fix of creepy stuff over break somehow.

What's the creepiest story you read?

Actually the stories that freaked me out the most were mostly just about murderers and not ghosts or anything at all. Is that weird?

Come on, now. If you'd really read those stories you'd know a good quarter of them sound like magic was involved. Apparitions and such. Things floating in the air. Add in a couple of grizzly murders and wham, bam, thank you ma'am - you get a campfire tale come true.

Sure, some of them sound like they might be nomajs misunderstanding what's going on with actual poltergeists or ghosts or maybe just pranks by wizards, but most of them sound like nonsense or scary stories. But that's what bothers me about whatever's in the woods. It doesn't really behave like an actual ghost or poltergeist or whatever we'd expect it to be, it behaves like something out of a nomaj horror movie.

Sure, and poltergeists don't behave exactly like sweet, baby puppies. Who cares? Plenty in the universe we can't explain. It's hardly crazy to think nomaj ghosts could be real and just, you know. Their own thing or whatever.

Besides, it's not like it's actually scary.

Even if we don't know everything, we know an awful lot about ghosts and spirits. And after all the reading I've done I just think it's more likely that all of the weird "ghost" stuff is just some kind of prank. Or a bunch of different pranks that people are assuming are related. God knows we play enough of them on each other.

You think folks here pulling off a thousand different intricate, interconnected pranks without getting caught is more likely than a single unexplained phenomenon? Alright.

No, I think people are doing random stuff to prank each other and everyone's assuming it's interconnected. And I do think it's more likely, because people prank each other all the darn time at this school, and nobody ever wants to get in trouble for it.

Prove it. Find evidence of one little prank, and everyone will shut up about this whole Gooseberry ghost thing.

Well, we've had the good fortune of being raised around ghosts all our lives, but there is definitely something different in these woods than the ghosts we've known back home. I think we all oughta be mindful, that's all.

it's a nomaj website! They use it as a discussion forum and there are subforums to talk about basically whatever. Including ghost hunting!
