A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Dinner draws to a close, and while some students go to the library or to bed, many file into the auditorium to watch the winter drama production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The lights dim, and the curtain rises on a beautiful (fake) Victorian garden, that shifts to become more tame or more wild and overgrown depending on the scene.

» Backstage: It's bustling with last minute costume adjustments, students worriedly practicing lines, and the buzz of pre-show jitters.

» Performance: Cast members can comment here with any descriptions of their performance, costumes (as long as it fits within Cole Moss' vision), and anything else you want to share.

» Audience: Those who came to watch the play and support their classmates! Hecklers will be asked to leave immediately if caught. This is where your characters can interact after the performance. Bring your friend flowers, throw panties on stage (Ms. Thrussell requests you don't actually do this), applaud raucously!

» Cast Party: Woo! We did it! A small party is held on stage in the fake garden for the cast and crew. Ms. Thrussell and Mrs. Acuña are only there briefly before they leave, trusting the students to mind themselves. There's only a little bit of trouble to be had in the form of a few bottles of ill-gotten champagne that the cast members can toast with, brought in by Ty Hawkeswood. (Your character may get tipsy, but there is not enough champagne to get drunk.) Cast and crew only, please. (EDIT: If your character joined after auditions but they're in Drama Club, you can consider them part of the production as a crew member or part of the ensemble.)

Pippa is too busy to feel anxious about how the show will go, although now and again she feels a flutter in her stomach that's part excitement, part nerves. She's eager to help the actors in any way possible, whether it's listening to someone run through their lines, sewing back on a bit of decoration that's come loose on a costume, or dashing off to get someone a glass of water. She tells as many of the cast as possible that they look amazing, and she just knows they're going to be brilliant on stage!

Ty + Vocal Warmups

Ty is an a ball of energy at this point and he's ready to go! To keep himself entertained and to prepare for the show, he's going through all of the vocal warmups he knows. This includes warming up the muscles in his face with different expressions, exhaling and inhaling and holding big breaths, going through his vocal range and scales, and of course...tongue twisters. He walks around trying to get the other actors (and the crew~ but that's more for fun) to join in with him. This is Shakespeare, people! The words are beautiful and important!

A few of his personal favorite tongue twisters include:

To sit in solemn silence in a dull dark dock, in a pestilential prison with a life long lock, awaiting the sensation of a short sharp shock from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block!
She stood on the balcony, inexplicably mimicking him hiccuping and amicably welcoming him in!
Through darkest mists with stoutest boasts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts!
She sells seashells by the seashore! (It's a classic for a reason!)
You can take a scrub and a rub-and-a-dub in a two foot tank of tin, you can stand and look at the swirling brook and think about jumping in, you can chatter and shake by the cold black lake, but the kind of bath for me, is to take a dip from the side of a ship in the trough of the rolling sea!

While Ty's very excited, he isn't nervous at all and he'll try to calm down anyone who seems on edge. Everything'll be fine, guys!

Kurt is a ~ray of sunshine~ today and ~in his element~ and ~okay maybe he's also a tiny bit nervous~ but ~mostly he's gleeful!~ He tries to relax before performances and today's no different — though in his own way of 'being Kurt,' relaxing is equated with being very happy. He joins Ty's vocal warmups a couple of times and does a heck of a lot of stretching since Puck is a pretty physical character.

BASICALLY HE'S JUST REALLY EXCITED. Today is on par with the horseback camping trip! He's truly in his element. Want a stutter? Too bad. This is Kurt's turf. He might remind others of a very, very excited puppy who was just presented with a whole jar of peanut butter.

He's also avoiding Coralee if he can. Ha. Ha. Ha. ~~oh merlin why what and how.~~

Focused and quiet, Cole spends the pre-show time drawing elaborate charms on the backs of faerie actors to create their ethereal wings, doing the hair and the more elaborate makeup of the actors, examining costumes (both off and on actors) to make sure that no last-minute adjustments need to be made, and generally making sure that everything is perfect. He won't do much talking unless he's prompted to.
